You can make a backup copy of cookies.txt immediately after you close Firefox.
Then you can check the next time if that file is still there with the same content. If it is gone then some security or cleanup utility may have deleted it.

Also

You need to reset the pref general.useragent.extra.firefox on the about:config page.
That pref should be the current Firefox version as listed at the top of the Help > About window.
On the about:config page (type in about:config) in the web address. You can right-click and Reset all general.useragent prefs to the default value.

Ok, in the about:config page I select (general.useragent.extra.firefox) but when I right click the "reset" option is grey...

I had the same problem a month ago. I asked around online and found a simple fix. All I had to do was change my cookie file from a .sqlite file to a .tmp file and it started working.

I know you already fixed it but it seems like this is happening to a few people.

OK.... Yesterday I hooked into the hard line ethernet connection in my house and now I cant save anything either. I have to log in every time I close the Browser. This is some weird crap because I have never had this issue before.

I have found a couple of files named cookies.txt. One is under Doc&Settings / Browser and the other one is under Doc& Settings / recent.

I am running firefox. And have reset the about config thing you mention. It has the current firefox version in there so I think thats correct. I deleted what was in it, then hit reset and the same text filled it up again. So my guess is that it wasn't the problem.

HELP :(

Sure things. I'm assuming you're running vista and firefox. Go to windows explorer or my computer. Go to the "users" folder under the C drive. Basically go to this string of folders:

"C:\Users\Your Profile Name\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\39t7t0qg.default"

The "Your Profile Name" folder will be whatever your user name is for Windows (i.e. Shane). I'm not sure if that last folder (39t7t0qg.default) will be named the same on your comp, but it should be something similar. There's a file in that folder named cookies.sqlite. Rename it as cookies.tmp

Let me know if that works.

Your security settings may or may not allow you to change the types of files like that. If it doesn't work I'll have to try and remember how I changed those.
