Diamondbacks right-hander Brandon Webb finished second in the National League Cy Young Award voting as right-hander Tim Lincecum became just the second pitcher in San Francisco Giants history to win the award.
Lincecum, who was named on 31 of 32 ballots, received 23 first-place votes, seven seconds and one third for a total of 137 points.
Webb, named on 27 ballots, garnered four first-place votes, 15 seconds and eight thirds for 73 points.
Webb, who won the award in 2006, has finished second each of the past two seasons. He tied for the major league lead with 22 victories and posted a 3.30 ERA.
New York lefty Johan Santana finished third with 55 points. Lincecum went 18-5 with a 2.62 ERA, leading the league in strikeouts and opponents’ average. Only Santana (2.53) had a better ERA than Lincecum’s 2.62.
Lincecum joined Mike McCormick in 1967 as the only San Francisco Giants pitchers to win a Cy Young.
