It was non-existent before Iupati went out.

Didn't Deonne lead the team in tackles?
TM did last night: 5 tackles, 1 INT, 3 passes defensed. Buchanon: 4 tackles. Buchanon leads the team in overall tackles however.

Another hero IMO is the punting game. Butler (hahahaha) had a very good game punting and holding the ball for catman (who didn't miss a kick). We had a good punt return to set us up with excellent field position and stuffed a up and coming return man in Lockett. When we're playing a team that has a great defense, field position matters and we dominated the field position game thanks to the punt game on both sides.

Its really Strange that our best back up offensive lineman is usually inactive since Iupati was healthy

Bucannon has to put at least 20 pounds on without losing Speed cause he doesnt have enough Strenght to tackle Power running backs

I'm okay with Palmer being a hero, but if we'd lost, he'd be both a hero AND a goat for me. Neither of those fumbles were blindside hits, and neither of them should have been fumbles. I get that he's trying to do a lot, but at a certain point, you take the effing sack and protect the football. Add that to the terrible pass-turned-catch on the TD drive and the terrible end zone pick, and he wasn't doing us many favors in the second half. Granted, he was under fire basically always, but I wasn't expecting miracles--just not turnovers.

Ummm how can you make a reasonable heroes list for a game like this where you didn't see the last 8 minutes???

Again, my cable cut out before the last 4 possessions, and I didn't have Palmer as a goat up to that point. I think those fumbles were problematic from a mechanics perspective (it felt to me that Palmer's mechanics were all over the place in this game, which was weird because he'd had a bye week to review them), but it's not like an RB fumbling the ball; guys were coming untouched at him.

I'd prefer to have a QB who's eyes are focused down the field than looking at the pass rush.

For me, H&G is about full-game performance, not one shining moment. Like, it's great that Jaron Brown broke up an INT, but that's not usually going to be enough to make this list, nor is one big run, regardless of the moment.

That's fair. Like I said, I'd have only put him as a goat if we'd lost.

He had a weird game he was very active but 2 of those breakups were dropped INT's right into his hands and he actually had a chance to score on both of them, if he caught it. The first one he rolled forward he was so mad that he missed it, the 2nd one was the deflection that he dropped and then immediately signalled it was tipped. He's always had great hands it was surprising to see him drop 2 like that.

I have him in my fantasy so I might be a bit biased at lost points by the drops/.

You base off full game performance but are comfy eliminating 8 minutes of a game??? Does that even make sense?

I like AE as "closer". Should be a new, real position for RBs who put a game on ice.

Not comfy with it. That's why I disclosed it here.

Interesting note: Rodney Gunter, from whom we expected big things this week, only played in 13 defensive snaps (21% of the total). On at least one of those he got pushed back two-yards in a goal-line situation. We used a heavy defensive line rotation; no DL had more than 90% of the snaps and only Calais (89%) had more than 74%.

I also want to give honorable mention to James Bettcher as a hero this week. His defense managed to hold it together (kind of) when it counted.

K9 you missed the real hero: the NBC cameraman smart enough to keep the camera on Drew Stanton during the Ellington TD run!

It seemed to me the defensive front was rushing differently in the 4th quarter. I can't describe it as I'm not an X and O guy, but it looked to me like they only rushed 4 and the change in pass rush was more suited to contain Wilson and keep him from getting outside.

Huge props to Lyle Sendlein for playng injured. Apparently, he was wincing in pain the entire game.

And Catanzero for making all his kicks in a hostile situation. I've criticized him before for missing high pressure kicks. But some of his kicks last night were as high pressure as you can ask for. And he pulled through. That was encouraging to see.

I give CJ a pass. I think that was his true 'welcome to the NFC West' moment last night. He's used to being able to get the edge against other teams. Sure he went to that well a couple more times than he should have. But I think he got that corrected in the 2nd half and you could see him settling for the tough 2 yard carries that would have been zeroes with Ellington.

Not really a goat but was anyone else annoyed at David Johnson for continuing to run the ball out of the end zone on kickoffs? He was never making it to the 20 and I was terrified that he would fumble or there would be a penalty that would pin us back against our goal line.

I agree with most but would swap CJ for DJ...

The running game was drastically effected when Iupati left...

DJ needs to really learn when to take a touchback... it seems like he was trying too hard to make something happen - but it was hurting the team in field position.

a few thoughts:

1. CJ looked like he ran determined not to fumble

2. Massie continues to illustrate why the FO drafted DJ Humphries

3. On Badgers Int -- he had all these blockers and he didnt follow them. Not sure what happened there

I think teams teach their guys to do that though. Statistically the difference starting from the 15 or 20 is not that big so they are willing to take a chance on a big return. My big fear is fumbles or penalties on the returns. he also has to learn that while patience is great, on KOR sometimes it's helps to actually be running full speed.

Agree. On just about every carry, he had both hands on the ball and dove his head down once he crossed the LOS. That was either overcompensation from his two fumble performance from the Browns or part of the gameplan

2. Massie continues to illustrate why the FO drafted DJ Humphries

It's a foregone conclusion that Massie is gone after this season, but I hope the coaching staff has gotten the message that he's either checked out or being outplayed game in and game out.

3. On Badgers Int -- he had all these blockers and he didnt follow them. Not sure what happened there

Badger needs to focus on catching balls that land into his hands. He had one sure-fire INT and another that he could have picked with a better effort.

It was tipped right before it got to him and came high in at him last second.

Wasn't that high. No excuse. He had both hands on the ball. Any DB/WR coach will tell you that if you can get two hands on the ball, you should catch it 10/10 times. This is a recurring issue for Badger.
