lol... okay. no difference losing a guy who was 3rd in total TFL last year and high in pressures versus Golden who is nowhere clear in sacks, tackles for loss and can get fooled by a misdirection play by a pop warner team.

and it's always good for a defense to keep aging and getting slower. Bang up blueprint for success.

and again, no one is saying pay Reddick 15 million. STOP FREAKING LYING. Jesus Christ, some of you guys are ridiculously pathteic in the specious way you make your arguments. Transition tag was 13 - give me Reddick and his upside over Kennard (or whatever trash Lions LB we paid for last year)/Golden and change any day of the week.
Golden's got double digit sacks on his ledger. It's not like he's incapable. I'm just finding it irritating that people seem to think Reddick is going to replicate this after being hot garbage for years. It's just a wild overreaction to think the guy has arrived.

I don't want to get older, but let's be honest, the Cards got to see this guy every day in practice and didn't pay him the option. Every day. It's not worth the panic.

And also, $13 million and $15 million aren't that different. I wasn't sure what specific tag was being referenced here.

Reddick's been SO freaking awful that I can't get that taste out of my mouth as easy. Not in a dude's contract year.

Where are we spending that $15M elsewhere? So far it’s not the top offensive linemen...
I mean, we tried. We have no idea yet why Linsley chose the Chargers over us. There's still a lot of free agency to go, and we have 0 starting CBs on the roster.

@cheesebeef I believe the issue with the transition tag was the entire 13 million cap hold. You can't move the money around like we did for Watt and likely did for Golden

They are probably half that number combined.

So I am not sure the tag was ever a real option due to Keim's prior cap malfeasance.

Run me his stats for the other 15 games and let me know if that a guy that deserves a tag and the money that comes with it.

I responded to a guy saying we need to keep him “at all cost”

so like I said tell me his stats for the other 15 games and let me know if you can’t live without him
Just like I don’t agree with pay him at all costs I don’t agree with can’t live without him. But we could’ve seen if the lightbulb came on with the tag. Which doesn’t hurt us into the future. And we are just going to spend that on more praters, goldens, other old guys, dudes coming off injury, yadda yadda. So who cares if we overspend for a season to see if he actually had the light come on last year (you know, more recently). I guess y’all just really want to save Michael some dough.

You can't force someone to sign with you. This isn't Madden where you can just up the bid until they accept the terms.
You’re right. But you have to be able to read the market and react accordingly. A good gm knows what’s realistic and plans for it. A bad gm has pie in the sky hopes like Lindsey, thuney, good wrs, etc and ends up getting none and losing their own higher end free agents. Keeping powder dry for things that ain’t gonna happen is just stupid. Or it’s just keim.

I'd rather have Golden, an IOL, and a WR or CB for that much.

Yeah... that wasn’t the question. Snd lol... where are all those guys coming from?

and you didn’t answer the question. Right now we have Golden/Kennard taking up 11 million dollars on the D. Reddick transition tagged would have been 2 million dollars more at that position. So, Would you rather have Golden/Kennard at 11 million or Reddick at 13 million. Also, Newsflash, you’re not getting an IOL, WR and CB for the 2 million dollar difference if you stick for older/slower/not as productive Golden and benchwarming busted trash from Detroit Kennard.

to get the IOL, CB and WR this team STILL has to make room outside of the dollars dedicated to the OLB spot they currently have.

Haasan Reddick had 5 sacks through the first 12 weeks, but we’ll ignore that because he finished with 12.5. $15m for a or year wonder in a contract year.... Hmmmm where have we seen that before?Usually that doesn’t work out for the team paying the player.

To make it even better, people are actually complaining about paying a proven starter in the NFL the 32nd most money for that position. He lacks control on the outside, but he’s not blown 8 yards off the ball against an offensive tackle like Reddick.

I think this is a good signing for all involved. Golden is a solid pass rusher opposite of CJ, which he’s proven in the past, and along with Watt on the interior. The last 2 seasons we’ve had 40 plus sacks as a team and I expect that trend to continue. I’d rather spend the money on a corner WR or offensive line help than trying to overpay for a guy, who in all likely hood, will not top 10 sacks next season. If Isabella has a 1000 yard season on the outside, will people claim he deserves a 2nd contract?

I’m not claiming super bowl or even playoffs with this move, but this is the right move.

Why not? If he’s as good as some people on here claim? Trey Hendrickson is getting $15m from the Bengals, Carl Lawson is getting $15m from the Jets, Shaw Barrett got $18m from the Buccs and Leonard Floyd is getting $16m from the Rams. Hendrickson is the only one to have more sacks than Reddick.

Thread is amazing.

I can see it now.

Reddick is killing it on his new team while Watt continues to battle injuries & Chandler of old is gone.

A bunch of “Well who could’ve seen this coming???” posts will pop up

Meanwhile, Golden just bit on another option keeper.
If you know 100% for sure all of this will happen next year then please tell me the winning #s for the next lottery. The only thing you stated that is probably 95% guaranteed to happen is Golden biting on the keeper.

That’s why I wanted to tag him. Let’s see it another year.
Agree we should have tagged him. I never doubted his work ethic or want to, I just didn’t see any production until last year so it makes me skeptical as to him repeating last year. it’s not like he blew anybody out of the water at temple either. He played against subpar competition and his best year he got eight sacks.

It wasn't that "pie in the sky" when we were down to the final three teams in consideration. Also, Keim can't draft, so keeping "our own higher end free agents" is a thing that doesn't happen.

This is so backwards. If we re-signed Reddick, Kennard is still under contract, just like he is with Golden, so you can't remove him from the Reddick equation either. It'd be more realistic to call it $11 million for Golden/Kennard, or ~$21 million for Reddick/Kennard. Kennard can still be cut in either scenario. Even if you want to make it "just Reddick," there's a $3.75 million cap hit to cut him, so you're looking at $16.75 million on the cap to give Reddick the unquestioned role and still have to solve for depth.

great post. I wish Reddick luck wherever he goes. He seems like a great dude that plays the right way. I just don’t think he will have the same production next year.

you don’t know what we are going to spend money on. All I hear is what YOU think is going to happen

For all we know Reddick might be getting north of $50-55m. Look at what LeonardFloyd just got.

Golden is a good guy to have around whether he has to play full time or as a specialist rusher. You’re a better team with him.

This is better than transition tagging Reddick IMO. Two years versus one. And, I personally think Reddick is fool's gold.

But, what do I know?
