Nick Dunlap had a very bad day at Augusta National on Thursday, but he can take solace in the fact that it wasn't the worst ever at The Masters.

That's mostly due to the fact there's a bit of a procedural dispute over what actually makes up the worst round ever at The Masters.

Dunlap shot 16-over par on Thursday for a first-round score of 90 that put him in last place on the leaderboard. It was five shots off the official worst score, set at 95 by Charlie Kunkle on Sunday in 1956. But Kunkle really shouldn't have that record anymore because Billy Casper shot a first-round 106 in 2005.

The reason Casper doesn't hold the record is because of a technicality. He failed to sign and turn in his scorecard after his 34-over day, choosing instead to withdraw from the tournament. Casper shot a 14 on the 16th hole that day, which should give Dunlap something to feel a little bit better about after he made it off the Par 3 hole in just five strokes.

Overall, Dunlap carded seven bogeys, three double bogeys and one triple bogey on five pars, shooting a 43 on the front nine and 47 on the back.

If Dunlap is salty about his score, he could always pull a Casper and rage quit.

But don't worry. Casper kept the infamous scorecard. He told reporters he planned to frame it.
