The stakes are high for the Texas Longhorns going into Today's First Four matchup with the Xavier Musketeers. Especially for UT coach Rodney Terry. Terry's job status has been much discussed in recent weeks. The more Texas wins, the more likely Terry will be to remain in place as the head coach of Texas men's basketball.
This will be the third meeting between the Musketeers and Longhorns. Texas is 2-0 in those meetings. Ironically, the two teams met in the NCAA Tournament just two years ago in the Sweet 16. Both coaches, Sean Miller for Xavier and Terry for Texas were in their first year as coach of the two programs. Miller returned to Cincinnati after 12 seasons at Arizona. Terry was the interim coach at UT. His 2023 run to the Elite Eight landed him the permanent role.
