What determines home vs. road uni's?

Cards will be wearing home color while Steelers road ones in Super Bowl... what determines that?

NFC gets to choose in the odd-numbered Super Bowls (43 this season), AFC for the evens.

The Steelers had the option in their last appearance (vs. the Seahawks), but chose White since they had been winning all of their playoff games on the road.

PIT had the choice in XL (2006) and chose to go against the grain and wear their white (road) jerseys since they had won three road games in the playoffs to win the AFC.
