What do you prefer to see in the NBA?

* The same teams win every year (i.e. seeing the Lakers or the Spurs in the NBA Finals every year).

* Seeing different teams win (i.e. seeing teams that have never won before, like the Suns, Jazz, and Hornets, win a championship)

Even as a Laker fan I won't vote #1. I want to see the Lakers there ever year, sure, but how boring would it be to play the Spurs every single year?

Since I only want one constant, I voted option 2. I would love to see the Lakers play the Suns in the finals.

I hate that it is fairly simple to predict who is going to win the title. In the NFL, this is not the case. Anyone can come out of the woodwork and win it all. In the NBA, only about four or five teams can win. And usually, the outcome (or at least the match up) is predetermined by the front office

Not really a stupid question. I think the ratings statistics show that people watch the dynasty teams more in the playoffs than the unknown (different) teams. I'm not really sure why that is. The only anomaly seems to be S.A. I haven't been able to find anyone outside of S.A. that actually likes to watch them play. And whenever they're in the finals the ratings are always sub-par.

Ratings and preference are definitely not the same, and your conclusion is a bit off. Ratings are higher when a michael jordan, a shaq, a magic johnson, or a <insert international sports icon here> is present in the game. Unknown teams are obviously going to gather little national audience ratings because they arent as prominent in the national eye. It doesnt mean its bad for the game or even against people's preferences.

If youre asking the fan, theyre going to answer different teams (as long as my team is there)

If youre asking an owner or tv executive, theyre going to say same team as long as they have international appeal.

Dont put too much thought into tv ratings other than to see organized numbers.

Also, you have to realize the sample size is quite small. We have what, 7 teams in the last 20 years who have won it all? Hard to base any sort of national trend off of that other than sports focused cities go after big players and win more often.

I think when all the people on the board hear the term fan they think of themselves... hardcore supporters of an NBA team. That's not really the majority of the people tuning in to playoff Basketball. Those people like to see names that they know like you said.

Hey, the Suns have been in two finals...that is more than a lot of teams can say. I wouldn't say the Suns suck. They are a solid team..and have always been successful getting to the playoffs. Only one team can win...and in the last 20 years only a handful of teams have won it all.

Hell, I cheer for the Cardinals where just GETTING to the playoffs is like winning a Super Bowl. If we actually won the whole thing, i'd probably lose it completely. Success is relative...and the Suns do not suck. They are one of the most successful franchices in the NBA. One day, they will break through...when they do it will be glorious...that's how I feel about the Cards. 1947 was a long, long time ago.

The Lakers are a market that's been able to attract free agents and essentially force trades for some of the most pivotal players in their history, and had the good fortune to have the Jazz #1 pick as compensation when Magic Johnson was available. I'm not crying foul, that's just reality.

The Suns have been a great franchise my entire life and I haven't for a second regretted supporting them. At the end of the day it's the great players and the great games that I remember. I'd love to see them win just one, but I love this team period.

Great points! The Suns have been a solid franchise for 40 years because of Jerry Colangelo. He made the moves and sacrifices to establish an NBA team in a not so popular city in the 60's. HE sold some good players on the idea of donning the purple and orange. Its hard to compete against large markets like LA and NY just because of demographics, but that is life. Its also tough in the NBA when the commissioner is a shrewed, intelligent businessman who knows how to manipulate the system to get his way, which has been evident since his inception as commissioner

Kobe is not the answer. It's teamwork.
The only reason the Lakers beat the Spurs is because they were playing against and injured team. If Manu was 100%, they could have swept the Lakers.
