what do you think after one week?

How will the D-Backs fare this year after seeing them for a week?

I think this team could wint 80 to 85 games this year after seening some life in the offense, but I think the big if is if Javier can shake his ruff start.

The good news is that we can score a lot of runs. We got 22 runs in 3 games against what was last year the best pithcing team in our division. The bad news is, primarily our bullpen, allowed 24 runs from the team that may have a very aenemic offense this year.
Maybe the dodgers are better offensively than I thought they would be, but I suspect a lot of clubs will kill our bullpen if they don't start stepping it up. Plus our starters need to go more than 5 innings.
I'm optmistic compared to last year, and if Glaus stays healthy, he'll more than replace Sexson, and a lot of sports columnists that crucified the dbacks for signing him will have to eat their words.
I'm hoping Green is just a slow starter.

The NL West is extremely weak. The DBacks offense will keep them in the race until the end.

As long as they stay competitive, we will probably see pitching help by mid season.

As posted in another thread, we're a Closer away from the Post-Season.

Otherwise, probably a .500 team.

Id say at this point, much better than .500, but not a playoff team

If we find a closer we could win a series in the playoffs, or win the division.

If not...then wild card at BEST (assuming the hitting continues).

I said wild card... I pray that our hitting is not a fluke. Cuz if we even slow down a bit, we'll lose more games cuz our bullpen sucks right now.

Im thinking the wildcard winner will have a better record then the NL West champ so its division champs or bust

This team is infinitely more entertaining to watch than last year's crew, whether they compete seriously for the division title or not.

Many fans are currently crying around MLB. Consider that after one week, the Dbacks have a better record than both the AL and NL champs of last season, AND their record is equal to George's $200 million dollar All Star squad.

Let's see how they do out on the road. I think they'll be much better at home this year, but they'll also have to improve almost as much on the road to talk about flirting with the division or even .500. And, that's where I have my doubts, because pitching is what typically struggles away from home. (Unless it's the Rockies.)

At risk of being a homer.... this team could compete with any in the majors. If only they had a solid closer

I say give it another week or two at least before you go trading good players away again. Even the bullpin may settle down.

How about Ortiz? I know many on this board thought he would be the weak link.

Do you think Maddox has Gonzo nightmares?

I think this club can compete for the division....IF we can shore up our bullpen, namely middle relief. Lyon is two for three in save chances, and it's too early to cast him aside; however, if we can't find a way to get to the closer, it doesn't matter who we stick in the closer role! Our offense has been a pleasant surprise, with the exception of Mr. GIDP - I would be shocked if he isn't moved down in the order tonight. We still manage to make bonehead plays in the field just like last year, although overall it is a much improved defense.

BTW, I see we signed Darren Oliver (formally of the Rockies) to a minor league contract....sure hope he works out better than the other retreads from Spring Training!!

Wildcard at best and no advancement in playoffs unless they find someway to shore up the bullpen.
