While watching the game last night, although Emmitt didn't play I saw him a few times on screen. Everytime I saw him he was either standing next to Coach Mac or rallying the younger players.

While I didn't agree with signing him, I'm glad to see that he's not a veteran who's only here to collect a paycheck. He really seems excited about this team and wants to be here.

I'm very happy to see that and, combined with what I saw in the Chicago game, I now think he was a terrific acquisition.

Now, why do you think he likes to stand next to Mac? Could it be that he knows that's where the sideline cameras focus most...... on the coach. back in Dallas he was famous for taking his helmet off whenever he scored a TD. Why did he do this. One guess.
I think he is one of the reasons the NFL does not allow a player to take off his helmet while on the playing field.

I think you might be reaching with this conclusion...just a bit...

Yeah, I wish he was humble like Jake.

Didn't have your sarcasm flag up.

What the f*ck does he have to gain?

He's got all the money in the world and gets endorsements out the a-hole.

Why should he make extra effort and suck up to the worlds worst football team?

Come on next you'll be suggesting he'd make commercials with ALF if someone would pay him.

Yes Emmitt took his helmet off and yes it probably was a reason there's a rule against it now.

But standing next to Mac to get camera time is hard to swallow.

I have seen ESPN replays of all 4 games, and last nights was the first time they did NOT show Emmitt in a play, he's had what 4 carries and ESPN has shown 3 of them in the highlights? The national media considers him our spotlight player, he's going to get camera time no matter what.

If he stood alone you'd be calling him aloof.

And he has stood alone. For at least a quarter of each home game so far, he stood towards the north end zone about 10 feet away from anyone.

I noticed because that was right in front of me. I was surprised Shane H didn't have something to say about it!

Hard to swallow? Add on, what in the hell is doing talking to sideline officials during the game? How many players do that? He knows what happens when your "out of sight your out of mind". His commercial viability will go right down the tubes.

Money, what does he get for autographs?

Being a hasbeen is tough for sports players, in baseball, basketball, and yes football, it is hard for them to walk away.

Talking to the officials: Maybe trying to influence them a little? Who would the official listen to more Emmitt or Anderson? Lets face it he still carries a pretty large aura on the field.

Commercial viability: That will be long gone if we lose. He has a lot invested in this team. Imagine the reporters if he starts looking like 1200 or more yards is possible this season. That will go a lot further than photo ops with Mac or anyone else. I like the fact he's involved everywhere on the field. That tells me he is trying.

He hasn't proven to be a hasbeen yet. So far quite the opposite would seem true.

No, but I am one pissed off Cardinal fan and if they read these posts I hope they will get the message. Now that is a joke, but it makes me feel better.

What are you pissed about? That they signed Smith? Didn't resign Plummer or Boston? Will you still be pissed if we have a winning record. I've been a Cardinal fan for 25 years, and this is by far the best job I can remember the front office has down. It may not equate to more wins immediately but clearly Graves has the ship going in the right direction. I have to admit, being in Cowboy country I wasn't really terribly excited about them signing Smith. But he has shown that he has some skills left, and is willing to be a leader.

If Smith sucks, and Plummer outperforms Blake then perhaps you are right in your assessment, but at this point I don't think you have enough evidence to pass judgement on them or Graves.

If Graves is so good why didn't he find a way to get a bonified QB like Kansas City did? Wht didn't he package Plummer, Boston, Klass, and even T.Jones for a QB? He dumped three players on the open market and received a dog for Jones. As for Smith I was in the Dallas area over Easter and took more ribbing over Smith that I will not soon forget. Everyone thought he shoud have retired. As you probably know the Cards were not Smith's first choice. He wanted to go to Tampa but all he could get was the minimum. Yeah, it still was the money that brought him here.

Best in 25 years. I disagree. How many free agents did he let slip through his fingers?

Blake? What do you think would have happened if he took the hit from the backside that Parsons took yesterday? Probably out for a month if not the season.
He is small, fragile, and getting up in years and Graves immediately names hhim the starting QB.?????

Hmmm...My point..incase your confused ..is that I hardly think that ES is standing next to Coach Mac to draw attention to himself...He's the NFL alltime rushing leader, and has multiple Super Bowl rings...I find it hard to believe that he joine dthe Cards to hog all the limelight.....That was the point of my sarcasm...read the post before you bite my friggin head off...

Plummer, Boston, and KLass were all free agents so he couldn't trade them. I did think he made a mistake not franchising Boston at the time, but the recent stories about Boston's attitude have changed my mind about that. Everyone thought Jones would be cut so I'm pretty sure nobody made a decent offer for him. He saw a spot that needed some improvement and took a risk on Walker that didn't pay off. The Cards of the past would have simply cut him and got nothing anyway.

How many times in the past 25 years have we signed 3 players that are significant upgrades to our starting unit (Hodgins, Jackson, Blake), and 3 others that will increase our depth at the least (Smith, Darling, Spikes). And thats not to mention adding Starks and Jones last year. We have better depth at every position, save CB, than we have ever had.

How many drafts in the last 25 years have we drafted 4 potential starters (Pace, Johnson, Boldin, King) and 3 others that look to be in good shape to make an impact in a few years (Gilbert, Wells, Hayes). Sure some of them may not pan out, but there is a pretty good indication that most of them will. In addition, when was the last time we got all of our draft picks in by the first week or so of training camp and signed them with "bells and whistles".

Graves has made a few mistakes this year, but he has also made alot of good moves. For once we aren't 15 years behind the rest of the league. Will all this equate to more wins and playoffs this year?? I really don't know, but it is alot more fun being hopeful and supportive, than it is to be pessimistic and negative.

:)
