I think we are going to have to keep things in perspective. I"m ecstatic about the win Sunday, but most of us believe we have more than just 1 or 2 issues we have to address.
Every season teams that are contenders face what I like to call 'hump' games. They usually occur later on in the season. An example would be a team is 5-6 and playing their division rival who is in 1st place at the time. Or your team is 7-7 and playing a team they are tied with for the last playoff spot. It's a game that gets you over the hump. It doesn't neccesarilly puts you in the playoff, but it's a game that establishes your identity or spot in the ranks.
The Cards are in an unusual situation this year because we faced a hump game on opening day. I don't think I would get much of an argument from any of you what a loss Sunday against the 49ers would have meant to moral of the team and Fan spirit. It's the 1st hump game we've won since we defeated the Eagles in o.t. in week 14 in 1998. That game put us at 7-7 and we went on to win the last 2 games to earn our playoff birth.
If this were a home game Sunday, I would consider this an official hump game, but it's not. A loss would drop us 1 behind the Seahawks with an opportunity down the road to even things up with them here at home.
A loss Sunday would create another early season hump game against the RAms. A loss to both the Hawks and RAms would establish us as 3rd best in the division.
To get back to my point, what if we win Sunday? Well, it would definitely turn some heads, but I don't think any of the 'experts' will be ready to concede the West Division to us. It will be a great confidence boost for this team, and for once in a long, long, time we can place the 'hump' game on the backs of some other team.
Damn, wouldn't it be great?

I don't agree...if we beat the Seahawks on the road (which I don't think we will) it will definatley start the whole "Superbowl Hangover" talk for the Seahawks. But there is still the Rams who looked much improved vs. the Broncos...

We will have to play a perfect game in all three areas (O, D, ST) to pull off something like that. Possible but unlikely.

I just don't see how we stop Shawn Alexander.

Maybe if we ball control and score 32-42 points, but if we don't move the ball and keep their offense off the field...it will be a long painful day.

Really? From what I saw, the Broncos just looked that bad. Meanwhile, the Rams take a play from last year's Cardinals book, get close, but don't bother scoring touchdowns.

This will be a big test , if we happen to win this Sunday the odds in vegas will change, they will move up all charts that show power rankings and Green will get a new extension. Dreaming of course!!!!!!

If this team plays like it did on Sunday then it will be a long day in Seattle ... we can not make the same mistakes and expect to win ...

We will have to be able to run the ball and not have many penalties and no turnovers to stay in the game ... can we do that .. ???

And of course the defense has to learn how to tackle in the next 4 days ...

If Denny can get this team totally focused and prepared then we have a chance ...

It would be nice to score 21 points in the 1st quarter again :)

EXACTLY! This is the only way to take Alexander out of the game (at least from a Cards perspective). Playing from behind and force Seattle to pass.

I agree that kicking 6 field goals isn't the mark of a great team..but that defense combined with Stephen Jackson is pretty scary..Unless Denver has gotten bad..

I want to come out of these first three games 2-1. I don't care how and in what order we get them, but I don't have huge hopes for beating the Hags in Seattle.

Frank Gore played his arse off....can't take anything away from him here. To assume that Alexander will have an even greater field day is impossible to predict. He didn't exactly run roughshod over the Rams.

Now if you are saying the Rams D is heads above ours hence Alexander's low rushing numbers last week, then I'll disagree.

You really mean Lions D, right?

I don't know what happenned last week. I did not see the Seattle game, but iIt seems like it was an anomaly. Alexander is much above Gore and if we had problem stopping Gore, Alexander will run all over us. Historically that has been a problem for us also. Of course, the D can play lights out. It is a slight possibility.

Actually, just the season before last, we did shut down Alexander in a win over Seattle at SDS. Alexander had one big 36 yard run, but otherwise, averaged less than 2 yards a carry.

I agree it's unlikely we stop him as well again. Even so, this game is not impossible. If we win the turnover battle, we can outscore them.

I consider that an anomaly too :), until we do it on a consistent basis...

Also, penalties... gotta stop stupid penalties.
