Long time Phoenician!
Gonzo has been one of baseball's best #3 hitters since arriving in Phoenix. You don't want to think about losing him for the season with elbow problems.
But if the unthinkable happened, where would that leave us?
I believe we could do OK.
I also believe that Matt Kata will take playing time at 2B from Roberto Alomar more and more.
If it came to it, I could see a lineup of:
KATA 2B -- Switch-hitter
CINTRON SS -- Switch-hitter
HILLENBRAND 3B -- RH batter
SEXSON 1B -- RH batter
FINLEY CF -- LH batter
BAUTISTA RF -- RH batter
TRACY LF -- LH batter
HAMMOCK C -- RH batter
I like Finley batting leadoff -- it makes him a more consistant hitter and gives us a guy with speed and power at the top of the order.
But if we lost Gonzo, I believe we'd need Fins power in the heart of the order.
So, here's hoping Gonzo's elbow can hold up for the season. But, if not, I wouldn't throw in the towel. Thanks mainly to the arrival of Richie Sexson.
