If I didn't know better I would think the Diamondbacks were taking a dive. The manager of this team needs to fine some people for stupidity and sit some asses on the bench. I've never seen a team play as stupidly as this one is. There is no excuse or justification for this type of play from highly paid veterans. Counsell needs to be benched as he is just not getting it done. If there is a trade on the table the D-backs need to make it and shake up the complacency I am seeing. From the look on Colangelo's face I will bet money something is coming down. I see Elmer, Danny Bautista, Spivey and possibly one of the prospects like Patterson or maybe even Schilling possibly going in a blockbuster. This team needs hitting desperately. I will not stop pulling for them but the Giants clearly have spoken. The only way this team gets in the playoffs is the wildcard and that is starting to look grim.

My sentiments exactly!

heh... If they were playing in the 1919 World Series, the on field evidence (from this game) would have many banned from the game for life.

I hate to sound cynical, but I don't think Garigiola Jr will pull off any "blockbuster" type trades. Take in point, last season's pennant-stretch, they were in dire need of a 3rd starter or an OF, however, he only acquires Mark Little, Mike Fetters, and
Felix Jose.... Those players didn't do anything whatsoever and I believe only Little is still in the organization....

The main question is, who really has any redeemable trade
value? Danny Bautista only thrived during the '01 post-season and has since been injury-prone and never has lived up to his potential. Spivey also has been injury-prone and has countless lapses. Noone would want to inherit the 2-year contract that the Dbacks signed Dessens to, especially because he lacks stamina.
I know a few teams have expressed an interest in Myers, but more than likely will be some lower tier prospect.

Patterson is a possibility, but he won't net much and Kata is too versatile to give-up on..... But they obviously need something to shake them up and it better happen ASAP or else.....

The slide started when the regular players started coming back. Tonight was inexcuseable. Boneheaded baserunning and fielding without any hitting. Bring in Brian Giles

I might be missing something... but didn't the DBacks win the division last year?

Yes they did win their division, however, we obviously know what their fate was afterwards. That being said, what major moves were made besides trading Durazo for (indirectly) Dessens and then Kim for Hillenbrand?Absolutely nothing! It just seems that this team has reverted back to becoming complacent. They are desperate for some much needed spark, another "wake-up call" to have them get back on track. In the meantime since last-season, the Giants acquired Ray Durham, Jose Cruz Jr., Andres Galarraga, Marquis Grissom, and Damian Moss. They were recently in need of a middle-reliever, so they immediately went out and got Herges from San Diego... The Dodgers obviously have upgraded their offense by getting Henderson and Burnitz. And the other teams in the wild-card chase have also filled some major voids, but it seems that Garigiola Jr and co. are content w/what they currently have. I sincerely hope they prove me otherwise.

Yes, the team lacks a right-handed power-hitting OF, but don't you notice that they also lack speed? Finley does steal the occasional base, but they're in a predictament now that they need to manufacture most of their runs and as evidenced by the constant strike-out/caught stealings, they have no idea on how to play "small ball"....

Again, I don't mean to sound so cynical, but I guess I'm a die-hard Dbacks fan (along with the rest of you) who wants to be a part of a major parade down Central Avenue cheering on the WS champs... It's just that entering this season, either they were going to focus on short-term or long-term needs, dictating on what their record would be by mid-July.... The youth movement necessitated by all those injuries injected a much needed boost to the team, but unfortunately their short-comings were learned and became exploited and now the veterans weaknesses are coming back to haunt them.... Now the question is, does the organization mortgage the long-term (Kata, Patterson, Gosling, Cintron, Hammock, Tracey, etc) in order for them to have one "Last Hurrah" from the players from the 2001 WS roster or when do you seriously trade away those players (Moehler, Barajas, Counsell, Spivey, Myers, Bautista, Dellucci, etc) before they are no longer of any value (if they even have trade-value)?

Lethargic, over-matched...and that is how we look against the Gnats in our GOOD innings!! I keep waiting for that blockbuster deal to shake things up on the ballclub, but deep down I know that JC won't take on any more payroll, so we have to work with what we have - - BRING UP CHAD TRACY!!!

Totally Agree on the lack of speed

I was roundly criticized for not wanting to trade Womack due to the kids lack of experience in the crunch. When your offense sputters like ours you must manufacture runs. While Womack had trouble getting on base, when he did, he could single handedly generate something. This team is the only team virtually in either league that does not automatically score from second on a single. For crying out loud, Gallaraga who is a two ton load scored from second on a short single to left center.

We lack speed and throwing arms in the outfield and when we make a throw we don't catch it. Lack of physical ability is one thing but being out of it mentally like Bautista, Counsell, and Hillenbrand as well as Spivey and even Fins on occasion is inexcusable. The manager must address this or he will lose this team. The Front office must help the manager shake things up. Maybe the guy who runs the farm system should be the GM (Is it Tommy Jones?) as he seems to know talent.

Is it possible that the 12 game streak took a lot out of the team and that this is just a let down?
Last nights game remined me of their last games in SF. I went tone of em and it was bad.

I think we have to concentrate on the wildcard now.
