What will new Jacksonville Jaguars' free-agent cornerback Jourdan Lewis' 2025 salary cap hit be?
Lewis joins the Jaguars on a three-year deal worth $30 million, including $20 million guaranteed. According to Ian Rapoport, this contract makes Lewis the highest-paid nickel cornerback in the NFL.
According to Over the Cap, Lewis has a base salary in 2025 of only $2 million. That, plus a $3.33 million prorated signing bonus and a few other smaller bonuses, make up his cap hit this season of a modest $5.81 million.
That will be the 12th-largest cap hit on the Jaguars' roster in 2025.
During the 2026 season, Lewis' base salary jumps to $9 million, with $8 million guaranteed. The prorated portion of his signing bonus, that $3.33 million, is again on the books (as are the smaller roster and workout bonuses) and results in a cap hit of $12.83 million.
In 2027, the final year of Lewis' deal, he has a base salary of $7.5 million, the $3.33 million prorated signing bonus still has to be accounted for, resulting in an $11.33 million cap hit. If needed at this point, the Jaguars could get out of the contract and save $8 million in cap space.
GM James Gladstone mentioned at his free agency press conference that he likes the versatility Lewis adds to the secondary, along with his playstyle. However, I would guess we mostly see him in the nickel, which is where he's spent his NFL career, which means Jarrian Jones will get a chance to play on the boundary.
