The 2025 National Invitation Tournament will include 32 teams and conclude with semifinal (Tuesday, April 1) and championship (Thursday, April 3) games at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

Who is playing in the NIT?​


Arkansas State, Bradley, Chattanooga, Cal State-Northridge, Dayton, Florida Atlantic, Furman, George Mason, Georgia Tech, Jacksonville State, Kent State, Loyola Chicago, Middle Tennessee State, North Alabama, North Texas, Northern Colorado, Oklahoma State, St. Joseph's, Saint Louis, Samford, San Francisco, San Jose State, Santa Clark, SMU, Stanford, St. Bonaventure, UAB, UC-Irvine, UC-Riverside, Northern Iowa, Utah Valley, Wichita State.

How the NIT field is chosen​


Exempt bids: Two eligible teams from each of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and Southeastern Conference (SEC) with the best KNIT score as of the morning of Sunday, March 16, will receive an exempt bid. Those four teams will have the opportunity to host first-round games.

Each of the top 12 conferences, as determined by the KenPom ratings as of the morning of Sunday, March 16, will receive one exempt bid. The bid will be given to the team in each conference with the bets KNIT score. Those teams will have the chance to host first-round games.

Automatic bids: Those go to regular-season conference champs that have a KNIT score of 125 or better as of the morning after that league's regular-season ends.

At-large bids: A committee selects teams to complete the 32-team field.

What is the KNIT score?​


Add seven ratings (BPI, KPI, NET, KenPom, SOR, TOR, WAB) and divide by 7.

2025 NIT schedule​


First round: Tuesday, March 18, and Wednesday, March 19, at campus sites, ESPN2 and ESPNU

Second round: Saturday, March 22, and Sunday, March 23, at campus sites, ESPN2 and ESPNU

Quarterfinals: Tuesday, March 25, and Wednesday, March 26, at campus sites, ESPN2

Semifinals: Tuesday, April 1, at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, ESPN and ESPN2

Championship: Thursday, April 3, at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, ESPN

What channel is the NIT on?​

  • First- and second-round games are on ESPN2 or ESPNU.
  • Quarterfinals are on ESPN2.
  • Semifinal No. 1 is on ESPN, and semifinal No.
