After Monday’s rain showers forced the cancellation of a practice round for this week’s Masters and later the closure of the course to patrons at Augusta National, how does the rest of the week look as far as the weather?
Much better, for the most part. But Friday in particular might be a wet day in this part of Georgia for the second round of the Masters.
On Monday evening, AccuWeather predicted just a 3 percent chance of rain Tuesday in the Augusta area. That was followed by a 2 percent chance of rain for Wednesday, when Augusta National will conduct the annual Par 3 Tournament. Both days should see temperatures in the high 60s.
The Masters begins for real Thursday, and AccuWeather predicted a 23 percent chance of rain for the day of the first round. That forecast included a daily high of 76 degrees with winds of 8 mph out of the south-southwest, and gusts reaching 18 mph. There is only a 1 percent chance of thunderstorms, so play might be able to go on even if it rains sans lightning.
As of Monday evening, AccuWeather was predicting a 71 percent chance of rain for Friday’s second round at Augusta National. That included a prediction of 8 mph winds out of the west with gusts reaching 23 mph, and a 14 percent chance of thunderstorms. The high temperature for the day is expected to dip to 67 degrees. If these predictions prove true, there’s a chance that at least a portion of the second round of the Masters could be pushed to Saturday morning. The sun sets at 7:56 p.m. Friday night in Augusta.
Augusta National also makes its own weather predictions, and as of 3 p.m. Monday, the club was calling for a 40 percent chance of showers for Friday.
The weather looks to continue to improve through the weekend. On Monday evening AccuWeather predicted a 25 percent chance of rain for Saturday in the Augusta area with a high of 65 degrees – Augusta National in its prediction had a lower 20 percent chance of rain. Sunday was predicted by AccuWeather to have a zero percent chance of rain and a high of 68, which should make a perfect day for the final round of the Masters.
