I was in wait and see, but after the signings today, I am actaully excited about next season. I think the defense could be better and if the offense can be average, we could be a sleeper. I also think the Seahawks locker room will be a disaster with Avril and Harvin coming in and they will take a step back.

why do you think the D could be better?

why do you think those two guys will make that locker-room a disaster? Neither of them are problem children. AP said he felt like he got kicked in the stomach when he heard Harvin was gone. Doesn't sound like he's a divisive figure. And I've never heard much about Avril.

With Wiz and Graves you could armchair QB because we saw them make the same stupid mistakes over and over again. With Keim and BA we don't have a body of work to judge and have to give them the benefit of the doubt for now. IMO anyway.

My opinion is the same as it was Monday. I won't be sold one way or another until after the draft (and that would only cover their competence in FA and the draft). But so far in FA I've been more impressed than I expected to be. That being said, my expectations were close to zero to begin with.

Wilson was a liability in pass coverage, Toler was hurt and Gay was terrible. We upgrade Toler and Gay for sure. The unknown is Johnson for Wilson. I feel Rhodes for Bell is a wash. We can younger and better at LB and DL with the signing so far. You disagree?

Harvin is a premadona. What is AP going to say about his best friend?

Avril is a me type player that said many times he wanted to get paid. There is a reason that great players like that are let go and it is dangerous to a locker room.

Same today as before ...the cuts had to happen. Can't let the fact the players quit against Seattle after the coaches quit against the Jets go unanswered. Arians is cleaning out the mess Whiz and Graves left from the last three Years. Has to happen even if D is not as good as it was. Who is to say it would have been any good next year anyway without changes. Offense could not have been any worse. Get dead money off this year and draft well. They have done great in FA. Regardless we are the weak sister in the division until proven otherwise...on the field. No doubt on that.

I think the man designs a mean tank, while sliding in new pieces to keep talent still around, but with different names on the jersies. Looks like the tank will be consisting of all Mendenhall (?) this year, the less Stanton throws it the better. I hope his revamp is as good and as quick as his tank productions.

I have felt confident in them all along, (and have been saying that). This is icing on the cake to me today. We get a #2 CB, relegating newly signed Powers to #3, and we get a kick-ass run stopper. Our defense just got balanced, and is deeper than last year with the exception of Safety, (which is not bad, but thin in depth right now). Our run defense has improved significantly, and our pass defense looks to be fairly solid. There are still good safeties to be had in the draft, so we can help depth there. We add a decent TE in FA and we are setting really good going into the draft.

I think we got stronger at CB and considerably weaker at S. I can't fathom how Rhodes for Bell is a wash in any way shape or form and while AW isn't anything close to the player he used to be, he's still better then Johnson IMO.

how is he a premadonna?

all players want to get paid. And the Lions are a horror show of a franchise. Them letting someone go is proof positive of very little IMO.

Rhodes was one of the best FS in football last year. Bell is a 35-year old below-average strong safety.

Adrian Wilson may not have been one of the most feared safeties in the NFL any longer, but he remains several quantum leaps ahead of Bell in terms of talent.

Weird what the plan is going cheap and untalented at the safety position when most other teams seem to think that it's increasing in importance. Not sure who is going to cover Jared Cook and Vernon Davis this year.

At least with the latter, though, no one on the Arizona Cardinals seems to have been covering for years.

What does that have to do with the price of tea in China? We drafted a safety in the 2009 draft, and he still isn't viewed as a legitimate starter.

If we draft a safety, it means we're not upgrading at other positions. Would drafting a safety to replace Rhodes or Wilson be more worthwhile than drafting a running back with some history of staying healthy? Or from drafting a developmental quarterback that won't make opposing fans laugh? Or a rush linebacker who has a little spring in his step?

They are trying to get younger and the draft is the best way to do that. They can wait until round 5 or so to get a solid safety.

Everyone knew they would get rid of some guys, and bring some in. It happens EVERY time a new GM/Coach is hired, it doesn't matter what the franchise is.

Now, if we win, with a very unglamorous group of free agents playing a key role, I will be extremely impressed. Right now, unchanged, and my opinion won't change until it matters.

We broke even in the "warm body for warm body" process (a vast improvement over Day One when all we got done was the re-signing of Rashad and scheduling a bunch of visits).

We won't know how we did talent-wise until we see how these guys perform individually and as part of a team. Talk is cheap, but I was encouraged by BA's observation that each guy we brought in "was a gym rat."

The biggest shoes to be filled figure to be those of A-Dub and Kerry (& in my minority opinion) Toler. That puts extra pressure on Rashad, Yeremiah, Cason and Powers to step up.

K-9, I just can't understand your obvious disgust with this Staff and FO, just as I never understood your man-love for Whiz.

This group more than likely has made our run defense much better than the 28th that we finished last year. They have certainly made our starting CB's considerably better than last year, plus we now have a decent #3 CB in Powers who can help on plays with multiple receivers, and we still have Fleming as a #4. We now have an improved line backing corps after signing both Brinkley and Alexander, (though he is primarily a ST'r he can still thump in a rotation with Brinkley when he needs a breather. Bringing in Shaunessy is a big plus for the run game also, plus he is an example for the locker room just as Alexander is.

That said Bell is workable at safety, (though he is injured 20% of the time). That is still OK for short term and they always said that they were going to go after O-line and Safety help in this draft which is deep in both. Meanwhile, I look for Rashad Johnson to become a solid starter this year, much quicker and younger than Wilson, and maybe a replacement for Rhodes, (though not yet as savvy). Remember, though Rhodes excelled against Philadelphia, he had some poor games too. I believe we put his 6 million to good use. We also have Stanton and Mendenhall on the offense, both of which are durable and serviceable. Mendenhall is an upgrade over Beanie any way you shake it, (head case or no). We might be able to ride Stanton, Hoyer, and a Rookie through the season, as ANY productivity on offense will be a plus.

I can't imagine how many hours the scouts, FO, and staff spent pouring through and studying players, getting them interviewed, tested, worked out, and signed in as short a time as they did. If you cannot tip your hat to that, I will simply tune you out as irrelevant, and enjoy what transpires with this team without any concern for your unwarranted negative bias.
