MOBILE, Ala. − Before talking at a fundraising banquet in Mobile, Alabama football coach Kalen DeBoer addressed the biggest college football news of the day.
It wasn't an update on the Crimson Tide's quarterback battle, or roster moves Alabama could make in the NCAA transfer portal. It was on the retirement of Lee Corso from ESPN's "College GameDay."
Corso, who spent 28 years as a college and professional coach and made his debut on the very first episode of "College GameDay" in 1987, announced that the Week 1 episode of ESPN's pregame show on Saturday, Aug. 30, would be his last.
"I think every Saturday, at least when your schedule allows, you turn on the TV. 'College GameDay' and all that, it's certainly right there, front and center," DeBoer said. "Entertaining for the fans, and obviously there's a history as a coach. I'm sure there are a lot of people that are going to miss what he brings each and every weekend."
ESPN has not unveiled a location for Corso's final episode of "College GameDay."
Former Alabama football coach Nick Saban joined "College GameDay" prior to the 2024 season after his retirement from the Crimson Tide.
Alabama will open its 2025 season Aug. 30 at Florida State, where Corso was a quarterback and cornerback from 1953-57.
