The rugged physicality and violence that drew millions of Americans to this sport is now having a reverse effect on this sport. The feminization of America has now made its way to the NFL. Our culture has created so many fears (real or unreal), that we have become paralyzed to do anything. Whether its Global Warming, Swine Flu, Vaccines, etc, etc - everyone has become a victim. There is more evidence everyday that the above catastrophies are a hoax, so where do we really stand with concussions. I'm not saying that they should be disregarded, but if the NFL continues to SUPPOSEDLY take the safe path & sit players, then the sport of football will suffer immensely. The reality is that each individual reacts differently after a concussion. Only the player can tell whether he can play or not. Roethlesberger claims he could have played & Warner seems to be saying the same thing. But the heavy arm of PC in the NFL is forcing these decisions away from the players. A more common sense approach needs to be taken. Aiken had a ton of concussions as did Staubach & they did extremely well after they retired. Football is a violent sport & if we continue to fear monger, then the sport will lose great players to other sports.

So you think your entertainment is more important than a man's life?

Call me "feminized," but I think that's pretty disgusting.

I would rather them sit a player for a week than make more ridiculous Brady Rules that soften the game and have to be called by the refs.

Uh, the 22 million people who have been diagnosed with swine flue wouldn't agree that it is a hoax.

I thought that not allowing the defense to play defense was killing the NFL, but concern with concussions are OK, too.

The more I think about the "feminization" of the sport, the more I think I'm okay with it:

Huh. PACardsFan says some things that are over the top occasionally but he is good people & a long time fan. I guess it's a genetic thing because his son does too. As a matter of fact, it must be a PA thing 'cause swd1974 and Stout are out there. Regardless, they all post things that will get under your skin but IMO they are valuable members of this board.

I suppose you do not watch MMA or Boxing then? I dont completely agree with what was stated in the original post, but do see what he is saying. The fact is these sports are violent and there is a real risk of losing your life or at least your health. That is part of the reason these sports pay so well and filter out only the best mentally and physically.

I guess my feeling is that I am a bit tired of society/govt/businesses making decisions for the individuals "well being". Bottom line is Ben or Kurt could have desided not to play and I dont think anyone would have looked at them as any less of a man. But when those decisions start to be taken away, well PA is right the sport could very well suffer. QB's are very well protected by the rules of the game now.

22 Million people??? Oookkk! But the hoax part might be based on all the fear mongering that was going on about how everyone was going to die if we didnt take the Obama shot. I didnt take it and neither did any of my kids or my wife. My neighbors resisted and finally did get the shot 2 weeks ago. Guess where they have spent the last week and a half?? I hospitals and Dr. offices. Not at school or work. The hype that was built around this was ridiculous and you dont have to agree, I know many dont.

You'll get ripped apart.

You get ripped apart because what you are saying is stupid. You forget these players are people. You want to see them kill themselves for your entertainment.

If you want to know what it is like to play with a concussion run into a brick wall with your head leading as fast as you can. Then in a week do it again and let us know how it goes. I doubt you'll even be able to talk straight.

People on this board and around the world actually care about human beings. We watch them play a game but want them to be healthy. What we root for is trivial when it comes to reality.

There are certain points when everyone has to change. What is known as 'old school' is now just an outdated and moronic stance. There is scientific proof that shows that. There are injuries you can play through. I'm not saying there aren't but when it comes to your brain you need to take every precaution possible.

Your comparison to running head first into a wall again and again is not the same as what happened to KW and Ben, Their head hit the turf w/ a helmet on one time.
When I say old school I just mean we played through this before to help win games. You dont know me, yes Ive had a concussion and played with it. Im not sayin its right to do, Im just sayin its a rough sport.

Spent a decade making a living playing hockey, and was concussed a number of times. Puked my guts out, and couldn't be left alone for days, but, when asked if I could play... said... yes, every time.

I wasn't in my right mind, and you never are when you get your bell rung.

Additionally, I didn't want to let the guys down; be considered a wuss, or potentially lose my spot.

This is a decision that MUST be removed from the player, and the pressures that surround that role.

PS: I'm more than a little tired of hearing from the keyboard tough guys on this issue. And, any who think there is even a tangential relationship between sport concussions, global warming, H1N1, and the PC movement, are seriously concussed and should stay away from their computer.

Tell me honestly, have you ever watch MMA or UFC for entertainment?

All I know is that I don't want Kurt's story to end like Andre Waters' story. The damage from a concussion is very difficult to ascertain, and it's hard enough for the team physicians to diagnose it without the player's attempting to conceal it--which there is pressure to do. The NFL has enough problems with the average former player having phycical problems that severely affect their livelihood (and I'm talking players who were in the league a coupe of years, not the stars). In my opinion, this is a step in the right direction.

Spot on. PA, I think you're usually reasonable, but this rambling diatribe is ridiculous and completely out of left field. Between Hines Ward (who clearly has been hit too many times) to message board MD's, this inane criticism is getting out of hand.
