What team will finish ranked #1?

Who is your pick for the Mythical Natiional Champion in 2006?

I've got Ohio State winning it all.

Good question. I think Ohio State will be good, but will lose 1-2 games.

It makes it tough becuase teams from bigger conferences can still lose 1-2 (or more in Florida State's Case) and still be up there.

Louisville has a shot at having a good year this year if they can win their Miami game. Not sure they will have enough SOS to win it all, but they have a great team.

I'd love for Boise to win it, but it's going to be near impossible, even with an undefeated season.

UofL all the way!! Their toughest games are at home so with a few good bounces..... maybe.... just maybe........

Said Oklahoma before the Bomar fiasco, but I'm going to now go with Auburn.

Favorable schedule (LSU, Florida, Georgia and three home OOC games against marginal to bad opponents all at home), returning backfield intact, and voter sympathy after getting hosed twice in the past decade will get them there.

USC.

I don't like them, but I'm not dillusional about their talent level at EVERY position.

Agreed. Notre Dame is overrated and will lose two or three games because the current junior and sophomore classes only have 9 and 14 players left. Willingham left a mess.

I'm with the rest of you- Notre Dame is the most overrated team in the country. Their defense will suck again and I'm sicking of hearing the "speed" card. They will lose against either Penn St. or Mich at home and will lose at USC. Opening at Georgia Tech is no easy task as well.

I like Auburn and USC in the National Championship game. They have favorable schedules that should help them get there. I like Auburn to win it all.

Auburn has Washington State, LSU, Georgia, Florida, Arkansas all at home. Their only tough road games are at Alabama and South Carolina. They also have the conference championship game which should be tough. Still like them to get to championship game

USC has a cupcake road schedule consisting of Arkansas, UofA, Wash St, Stanford. Only two tough road games are at Oregon St. and at UCLA. They have home games against Neb, ASU, Oregon, Notre Dame, and CAL. While those are tough games, home field advantage should be enough. They lost key pieces to their offense and defense but are loaded with talent. They look like they have 2 great QB's, 2 of the best RB recruits in the country, 2 of the best safety recruits in the country.... They reload with talent like no other team in the country and will do so again this season. I made the mistake of saying some kid named Matt Leinart couldn't replace Carson Plamer and that it was ASU's year to get to the Rose Bowl. Not making that mistake with Booty or whomever else they throw in there. However, their inexperience at QB is an issue until proven otherwise and their schedule at the end of the season is also an obstacle. They finish at home against Oregon, CAL, Notre Dame, and at UCLA. Those are very tough games all in a row

I also like Florida State and Texas as sleepers. I don't like either teams QB situation (although Weatherford came on strong at the end of the season) but their schedules set up nicely.

Of course Miami is my sentimental choice, but maybe not so realistic.

Just in case they don't, I will go with Auburn.

09/16/06 Sat LSU Auburn, Ala. CBS 2:30 PM
09/23/06 Sat Buffalo Auburn, Ala. 1:30 PM
09/28/06 Thu South Carolina Columbia, S.C. ESPN TBA
10/07/06 Sat Arkansas Auburn, Ala. TBA
10/14/06 Sat Florida Auburn, Ala. TBA
10/21/06 Sat Tulane (HC) Auburn, Ala. 1:30 PM

11/04/06 Sat Arkansas State Auburn, Ala. 1:30 PM
11/11/06 Sat Georgia Auburn, Ala. TBA

Good enough schedule to avoid soft schedule label, but toughest games are at home, except for Alabama game.

They play Georgia, Florida and LSU in Auburn, AL.

Auburn, LSU or Miami(if Miami wins tonight). I'd take Miami from what i've seen and the conference they play in which isn't as tough as the ACC but I hear Auburn is great to and I don't know anything about them.

You know what? Forget that. With Bush gone with an injury, that really hurts Louisville. I can see WV going undefeated and with their high ranking now they can finish #1.

I agree, they don't play anybody.

WVU needs to get past Louisville and an improving Pittsburgh team. Other than that, it is a cakewalk.

I do agree except that playing at Maryland is never "easy", but they should win.

Too bad Auburn backed out of their home-and-home this summer. That would have been a great matchup.
