Honestly..I say we give hime 13 to 14 million with 14 million garanteed! Meaning play as well or damn close to what you did this year and we will happily give you 13-14 million more for 2010. I think the Cardinals must do it because 1 he deserves it for what he has done...on and off the the field. And the Cardinals are a legit franchise now. But that is with Warner...If we start over again...we will be placed right back where we use to be. Warner gives us the chance to score 30 a game...And gives us respect around the league and the media. JMHO

i would much rather spend the 14mil elsewhere rather than on a 38 year old qb

I think rules prohibit giving 100 percent guaranteed. I believe there is a cap like 1/3 or 1/2 of a contract being guaranteed. But don't quote me on that. :)

Also another guarantee part is the roster bonus, which with a 2 year contract, he only can have 1 roster bonus I believe. Which overall limits how much of a guarantee we can give him. Another limitation I believe is the uncapped year which is screwing with the guarantees.

The only fully guaranteed contract is the franchise tag, which is 1 year guaranteed. Personally I don't feel 14 mill per is too much, for a 2 year contract. 5-6-7 years, oh yeah with anyone if they bust it can put you in a serious bind, but 14 mil per for 2 won't hamstring us too much imo.

Which is why I think KW being his age is actually a good thing for us. But that said KW not being on the team won't destroy the team, it'll just push anything past the 1st round of the playoffs realistically out of our reach. But long term, we are sitting good talent wise to survive long term without Warner. Let's get it done, I want next season to be great. 2010 is too far away :)

Again

CC again I understand you frustration. But I feel you are overestimating the overall impact Warner has on future teams. His departure won't hurt us long term, only next year and potentially 2010. But with 2 drafts, 1 full free agency, and 1 a few days less than full free agency there are a lot of opportunities to pick up another Qb.

What the heck is the FO doing? Exactly what we're always telling the players to do: act like you've been there before.

Freaking out over one good year and throwing tons of money at Kurt is so ghetto rich. What the Cardinals need to do is continue to build on what they've done the last few years. The most important player on our offense is only 25, the OL is intact and if any changes are made along that front it will be strictly a matter of upgrading a position instead of having to fill holes. We're going to be just fine with or without Kurt. A good rule of thumb is that a player who is considering retirement probably isn't the guy you want to build your team around.

I have said all along that the Cards getting back into the playoffs is not a sign things have turned around. Even going to the Super bowl is not a sign things have turned around. Odds were eventually this team would get back into the playoffs eventually.

The signs that this team has turned things around is when this front office resigns our own free agents, is aggressive with outside free agents and becomes a destination for free agents. All signs point to this front office bringing some of the old attitude to the negotiation table.

Simply put...nobody can claim this franchise has turned it around until the front office proves it over a sustained period of time.

It would be nice for the front office to have done something but what could they really do? Warner is wanting too much money. Let him play his game and see what happens. As for the other free agents, this is a very weak class. Who do you think the Cards should have signed so far? Haynesworth was never a possibility, nor should he have been. Jason Brown is about the only guy who could have helped out but i don't think he's a guy who makes or breaks the Cards season.Stacy Andrews is a huge injury risk.Bart Scott and Foxworth are this year's Calvin Pace. There could be some more bitching going on if a guy like Suggs was out there and the Cards didn't even look at him but all the attractive FA's were tagged by their teams. Guys who can really help the Cards like McFadden, Bartell, Barnes, Benson, Birk, Canty, Olshansky,Buchanon, Greer, Petereson, Bernard, Marvel Smith, LJ Smith,Tra Thomas, Bodden, Ward, Phillips, and even McCallister are still out there.

Losing Antonio Smith and JJ are no big deal. Losing Warner would be a blow but not at 14+ million/year. If somebody wants to give that to him, fine. I can't wait to see this place if Warner signs with SF for 2 year 30 mill. It will be comical. The Cards probably haven't put their best, final offer on the table yet, nor should they . If Warner gets a legit big time offer, Graves will either cave to it or move on. Offering 14 mill right now is only bidding against yourself.

Actually, as I and most teams have slowly learned over the years, simply throwing money at big FAs is not the answer. I know it's hard to digest because it has taken me so long. I agree about re-signing our own FAs, but as another poster has said, who have we really lost that we wanted back or could do anything about? We aren't grossly overpaying for Kurt and we weren't going to overpay for Smith when we already have his replacement. I think signs point to this FO making progress.

What is the front office doing? That's an easy one.

Today is Sunday. Michael Bidwill and Rod Graves are Catholic so they will probably go to Mass this morning and pray. Meanwhile, Kurt Warner will also be praying for guidance from his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Then, this money stuff will all resolve itself within a few days, with or without God's help.

do you find it funny that these players, like Reggie White did, always say they asked God to guide them where to play and ,strangely, coincidently , it always seems to be where they were offered the most money.

Good memory, cbus. I had forgotten about that one. (Hope nobody gets offended by our attempts to lighten things up.)

I never wanted Warner gone...In fact I have said many times!!! He would do exactly what he did this year. He is PERFECT for our system...The problem is...and the FO has done this many times!!!!! They screw the player for 3 years and when he proves his worth...they say well....You may not duplicate it now or you are near the end. And that is why EVERY player has left...and has had nothing good to say about the Cards FO....Now Warner was paid 6 million for the last 2 years and blitzed the league...He wants to be REWARDED so to speak and the FO is saying...nahhh....I mean if they are willing to pay 11 million a year...what the heck is 2 more million...Make it 13 million...say THANKS for leading us to the Super Bowl...and then the FO can relax and go sign their and or other players!!!!

He was paid7.5 ad 8 mill the last two season. HArdly chump change. Two, we gave him that contract when he was all but done and hadnt yet proved he wasnt washed up. Kurt and his agent are the ones that signed the deal so bringing up his last deal has nothing to do with nothing. Warner wasnt even close to being screwed the last 3 years. And if they feel that way ask them whos signatrures were on the bottom of that contract and if there was a gun held to teir heads to pt it there.

Now I agree that just adding 2 more mill to his deal isnt that big of a deal when you only consider it for one player. But that sort of negotiatiating causes a domino effect with other players which is why you cant just say oh well add 2 more mill. Whats to stop Boldin, Dockett, Wilson, or any other soon to be free aent or current free agent from saying well you did it for Kurt. Your kidding yourself if other players and especially agents dont take notice if something like that happens.

Dockett said Warner should have been PAID weeks ago. Every player on the team has said that....11 million or 13 million what is the difference???

Every Player on the Team. You have talked to every player or does Dockett speak for every player?

And Dockett says as such becuase he to then can do the same thing. H has an agenda in saying what he is saying becuase he to wants a new contract. Now he can say 7-9 mill whats the difference, you did it for Kurt. Its a huge difference when you have 10 different players asking the same thing. Now an extra 2 mill is not an extra 10-20 mill.

A line has to be drawn somewhere doesnt it, I think you could agree with that. As to where you think that line should be thats the debatable part.
