They did just extend Marbury's contract, but IMO he will never be worth close to the money he is going to be making in just a couple years. They have already overpaid Shawn Marion, but I figure he has room for improvement. Marbury is as good as he is going to get, and he has not a $20 million player.

I'm not sure how I feel about this trade yet, but getting rid of Marbury's contract is a good thing.

i know this is a beaten dead horse, but what determines who is worth 'the max?' first off, i completely agree that there isn't anyone on earth worth 15 million per season to play basketball. but, as the market goes, and if you look at a bell curve for players and pg's, the best ones will make the most money, and that, by definition is the max (or darned close to the max). Marbury is at that top end of the very best pg's in the league. he's not old. he's in relatively good health. he's been a rugged player for this team for his time with the suns. what else is there?

my look at the trade is this--they traded a known commodity. by all accounts, one of the top 2-3 point guards on the planet. in exchange, they saved money, and got the ability to draft a few extra guys. with the hopes of developing into productive and hopeful superstars in the nba. but, wait, didn't they just have one of those players and they traded him?

maybe i don't get it.
