A little pessimism:
"Martz's offenses the last five seasons not only haven't won, they've produced more turnovers than touchdowns. I don't see how that can be avoided this year, unless J.T. O'Sullivan turns into Warner and Martz has a brilliant season game-planning and play-calling." - NINER INSIDER, SF Chronicle
Final analysis:
"Both the Cardinals and 49ers enter this game with some urgency, even if they won't admit it. Nolan is clearly on the hot seat, while Whisenhunt has raised the bar after last year's 8-8 finish. Arizona clearly has the edge offensively with the more experienced Warner under center, but O'Sullivan does have a mystery factor surrounding him and will get plenty of chances to show his arm off. The Niners are athletic on defense and possess a shutdown corner in Clements, but that didn't stop the club from giving up plays through the air last year. The Cards, meanwhile, can put a lot of pressure on O'Sullivan if they keep Gore in check, which would be San Francisco's undoing. The Week 1 edge goes to the up-and-coming Cardinals, with Nolan's seat getting a little hotter.
Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Cardinals 21, 49ers 17 " - Michael Rushton, NFL Contributing Editor SF Chronicle
Bryant Johnson on giving away the secrets of the Card's palybook:
"Honestly, I don't remember the playbook any more," Johnson said Thursday. "Once I've been doused into this (Mike) Martz offense, I kind of forgot the playbook from last year. There's no room in the brain for that. You just have to stay in line with what you're learning." Sf Chronicle
