the 1, 2 and 3 are set and looking very good, I'll assume Collmenter at one of the back two spots and possibly Bauer??

I'm not sure Bauer will go straight to the bigs to be honest.

He pitched in the minors last year for about a month, so technically, he would not be going straight the the bigs. ;)

I see your point though, that is why I am sure they will be in a cheap 5th starter in case he is not ready. Also, Miley did enough to compete for the 5th spot in the spring.

More than likely you'll see a guy like Miley or Corbin get the spot out of spring and then Bauer or Skaggs will come up at the end of May so they can delay their free agency.

There is a familiar option out there but I'm sure people will shoot it down. Edwin Jackson is still available and he would be a nice #4 pushing Collmenter to #5.

He is still young, would make a great #4 instead of the #2 he was in his first stint here, could probably be had for $7M. Here is what I would do, sign him to the contract we offered Saunders, 2 yr, $14M and if Corbin or Skaggs are ready at the deadline you can trade Jackson to a contender for some more pieces, so it would e a win-win.

Not a horrible idea but won't happen. He is looking for a lot more than $7 million. Hell he made $8.75 mil last year. He is a Boras client so he is waiting for all other pitchers to sign. In the end he will probably sign a 3 or 4 year deal around $10 to $12 mil annually.

I don't know, you see most teams going the trade route to get starting pitching and there are still a lot of good pitchers being discussed in trades. I would really be surprised if Jackson or Saunders get $10M a year deals. They may have to take pay cuts especially if they want long term deals.

If I were a gambler, I'd bet on Miley, Corbin and possibly a low end, cheap veteran (Chris Young? John Maine?) being brought in to compete for that 5th spot in the rotation.

Boras guys never sign early. He keeps his players until all the other top players are signed and a few major trades happen so his guy is the only one left. Jackson is going to make his money and now with Gio gone you'll see the market really pick up.

Gee, if we signed Pitcher Chris Young, we would just have to trade Outfielder Chris Young. Otherwise, it would be too confusing.

I think they way overpaid. This deal makes the Cahill deal look great for the D-Backs.

I think the Cahill deal WAS great for Arizona. You'll find few who are bigger fans of the move than I am.

As for Gio, DC has him under team control at a moderately respectable price tag for the next four seasons. Combined with Strausburg and Jordan Zimmerman, the Nats now have one of the better 1-3 rotations in the National League, if not all of baseball. They're also a relatively young team and have potential to really make some noise both for the here and now and for the future in a suddenly wide open NL.

For Oakland, I REALLY like Cole obviously, but he's at minimum two years away from being MLB ready. He's got a huge ceiling, but I can't fault Rizzo for trading that potential for Gonzalez. Gotta give something to get it.

Some are nuts about Norris, I personally am not. The guy is all or nothing when it comes to the bat, and by what I've seen of him, reminds me of a slightly better defensive version of Ryan Doumit. Hitting .210 in the minors is alarming.

Peacock had a very good 2011, but I've not seen anything of him in the past to lead me to believe Washington lost out on a future All-Star in trading him. We're talking a guy who prior to 2011 hadn’t kept an ERA under 4.00 since his stay in Low A ball in 2008. I view him as a middle relief pitcher, or at BEST a #5.

I like Milone a little more than Peacock, and feel he's the 2nd best player Oakland got in the deal, but when I see him, I view him as a middle relief/#5 pitcher. Nothing wrong with having a strong #5, but again.. If I had to pick between those two and Gio, it's a no brainer in my book.
