I must disagree with part of your proposal, sundevil04. A regular role in the 7th or 8th shouldn't do any damage.

But an undefined relief role with "maybe work in some starts again" is asking for shoulder problems again.

I know I'm but, whether pitchers or position players, Melvin's undefined roles are what's leading our young players to underachieving and inducing injuries.

And now, with Scherzer's return on the horizon, Melvin just announced that Owings will return to the starting rotation. Where does that leave Scherzer?
Without a role.

And, after a few days of going with a set lineup, the goofy batting order changes are commonplace again.

I can't stand what Bob Melvin's indecision is doing to our young players.

The only one who has come through it OK is Conor Jackson. Moving him to LF, where he is a much better fielder than at 1B and leaving him in the lineup -- along with his own self-discipline to not try to hit every ball into the air -- has produced the only positive results among the current wave of BabyBacks.
