All ballots are due before the start of the 1st round. The winner is usually leaked a few days before the official announcement which usually comes at the start of the 2nd round.

Last year the official announcement was made the Sunday prior to the start of the 2nd round. This year, that would be May 7th. A few days before the announcement, the name of the winner is usually figured out and the winners name hits the press.

If it is a really close MVP race, watch to see which teams are playing on the Sunday. The winner in the past few years has started 2nd round play on the Monday.
