After losing six of their final seven games to end the 2023 season, Philadelphia bounced back hugely, winning Super Bowl 59 in a rematch with the Chiefs.
Two of the biggest factors in the rebound were Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean, the Eagles' first two picks in the 2024 NFL draft. Both players had first-round grades, but Howie Roseman hit the jackpot when DeJean slid down draft boards, and Philadelphia traded up in the second round to secure the former Iowa star.
The Birds were 2-2 coming out of the bye week, but lost just one more time after DeJean entered the lineup following the Week 5 bye. The Athletic did a re-do on the 2024 NFL draft, and the Eagles' two defensive gems were selected way earlier, with DeJean leapfrogging Mitchell and landing in the top 15.
DeJean was among the highest-rated players in the slot, holding opponents to 50 receptions. He had five pass breakups, and quarterbacks had an 82.2 passer rating against him.
Mitchell ranked 3rd among NFL CBs with 16 forced incompletions, trailing only Zyon McCollum (17) and Denzel Ward (17). He was 3rd among CBs in yards allowed per coverage snap (0.8) behind Pat Surtain (0.6) and Derek Stingley (0.7) (min. 600 coverage snaps).
The Eagles drafted Ravens cornerback Nate Wiggins at No. 22 with the pick, meaning the Super Bowl champions still would have landed an impactful and elite player at the position.

Original pick: Laiatu Latu, edge, UCLA
Good luck deciding which Philadelphia corner was better as a rookie, DeJean or Quinyon Mitchell. They were both awesome, though I think DeJean’s impact in multiple areas of the field (including as a punt returner) might provide better value. Either way, Howie Roseman did it again.
Original pick: Jared Verse, edge, Florida State
As expected, Mitchell immediately found his footing as an NFL cornerback and was one of the league’s best full-time starters, wire-to-wire — all the way through the Super Bowl. It was a great start for what looks like a great player.
