Need more consistent offense. The lack of at least one true power hitter will haunt this team down the road... Not sure how or where, but it sure would be nice if we can pick up a big bopper come the All-Start break!

Like who? Whose available without giving away the core of our team, or the future?

Good question... I know the Yanks are looking at Texiera from the Rangers, but I'm not sure at all he'd be worth giving up any of what already have...
Any hope of bringing some stud up from the farm??
All I know is that without that sort of threat, this team will be exposed... They took 2 of 3 from the Mets which was huge, but the Mets did not play many of their regular starters... We need more offense...just not sure where to find it...

I think for this year the hope is going to be that the offense comes from within, that guys like Quentin, Young, and Drew start to flash more power.

Quentin is the only one of that group who is capable to being a consistent HR hitter... Young and Drew can be tremendous hitters for sure, just not HR hitters...
I have been extremely disappointed in Quentin's lack of development as a hitter... What a bummer...

I could see Drew in the 15-25 HR range, and Young in the 20-30 range, but yeah, Quentin needs to be the big HR threat.

I do agree with you though in that the lack of a true power hitter will severely hinder this offense.

I actually heard a lot about Young's power on baseball sites. He could turn into a nice home run threat, just not this year.

The D-Backs need to get out of June with a respectable record which means they have to beat teams like San Francisco. This would be the first time in a while that they've gotten out of June alright and if they can the playoffs are a possibility. I feel that this team is just as good or better than anyone else in the division.

I agree with that... though, it really doesn't mean all that much... The NL West is anything but a powerhouse. It would be great to see the snakes make the playoffs! But they just don't match up against teams like the Mets & Braves... They simply need more offense on a consistent basis...

Does Drew remind anyone of a young Jay Bell? A mean a young Jay Bell with more range? ;) He has good power to the gaps. I think he can be a 20 to 25 guy over time.

I think our prayers for power may have been answered in Mark Reynolds. If he can keep it up that is. They keep saying he has Mark McGwire like power in BP. I also think Quentin can hit for power. With Drew and Young hitting plenty of doubles. Does anyone else dislike Byrnes leading off? I know you dont mess w/ a winning formula right now, but I'd much rather see him in the 4 or 5 hole, and have Young leading off.

Come July you could expect to see names like Ichiro, Sweeney, Teixeira, Dunn, Griffey and Helton become available as teams start falling behind and none of them with the possible exception of Dunn would be worth the cost compared to what they provide the team.

Ichiro's not a power bat, and Sweeney/Griffey/Helton are going to command more than I think they're worth at this point in their careers.

I wouldn't mind Teixeira in the least, but only if he signs a long term deal as a condition of the trade.. Dunn, I also would be very happy with, even though he goes against what some of you guys on here like in a hitter (he's an all or nothing guy).

I wouldn't mind Dunn for the right price. A more little more swing happy than Byrnes with twice the power....most of our line-up has pretty smart hitters. A power bat would help.

I don't think a rational evaluation can come prior to the All Star break. This team has a history of nose diving in the second half. If they're still in the race come July, you have to make a move

He's capable because he has the bat speed and the power, he won't until he learns to stop chasing pitches out of the zone (something he has improved on slightly in the last couple of weeks.)

He says he's aware of it, but every now and then he maddeningly will chase the down and away pitch....which is the scouting report on him obviously since you see pitcher after pitcher throw it too him.

Young obviously has the power, I think he'll be the first between himself and Drew to hit for 25-30. I think Drew is going to make a living on doubles.

Texas GM downplays chance of trading Teixeira
Thursday, Jun 7, 2007 3:13 pm EDT

Texas Rangers' GM Jon Daniels said his club would probably be a seller as the trade deadline approaches unless it makes a quick and drastic turnaround, but he downplayed the possibility of trading Mark Teixeira.

Daniels said he had not talked to any clubs about Teixeira recently. Daniels, however, also acknowledged that most clubs are tied up with preparations for the upcoming amateur draft.

He said he did not have any plans to shop Teixeira, who is eligible for free agency after 2008. There have not been any substantive talks about signing Teixeira to a contract extension.
