Weeks after the NFL scouting combine and with a little more than a month until the 2025 NFL draft, Penn State's Abdul Carter is still highly regarded as a potential top draft pick in the mock draft community. But Carter has been dethroned as the top overall pick according to Mel Kiper, ESPN's chief draft expert.

In his latest update to his mock draft, Kiper has bumped Carter down one spot on his overall draft order, going from the first overall pick to the Tennessee Titans to the second overall pick of the Cleveland Browns. Whether he is first or not, Carter is still very high on the big board for Kiper following the combine; Carter did not participate in the workouts during the combine but will go through the combine routine at Penn State's upcoming pro day.

The Browns made headlines recently by locking in Myles Garrett to a new contract. Adding Carter to the defensive line would make for a ferocious defensive line in Cleveland.

Kiper had Carter as his top overall pick to the Titans about a month ago, before the combine. Taking Carter's previous spot at the top of Kiper's mock draft is Miami quarterback Cam Ward.

Carter is not alone in representing in the first 10 picks according to Kiper, however. Tight end Tyler Warren is the seventh overall pick in Kiper's mock draft, landing the Mackey Award winner with the New York Jets. This would be reminiscent of the Jets drafting another former Penn State tight end in the first 10 picks after drafting Kyle Brady in the 1995 NFL draft following Penn State's undefeated 1994 season. The Jets used a first-round draft pick on Penn State offensive lineman Olu Fashanu in the 2024 draft.
