UNC basketball is on shaky ground entering Selection Sunday and the reveal of the NCAA Tournament bracket.
The Tar Heels (22-13) have won eight of their last 10 games, but a 1-12 record in Quadrant 1 games is an eyesore that could keep them out of March Madness for the second time in three seasons under fourth-year coach Hubert Davis.
Following the loss to the top-ranked Blue Devils (30-3), the Tar Heels are dancing on the wrong side of the line in most of the March Madness projections. Here's a breakdown entering Selection Sunday.
UNC has a 1-12 record in Quadrant 1 games, but is 21-1 in Quadrants 2-4. Following its ACC Tournament exit, the Tar Heels’ resume includes wins against a UCLA team projected to earn an at-large bid and an American squad that won the Patriot League’s automatic bid.
The Tar Heels are No. 33 in KenPom’s metrics and 36th in the NET rankings. As it stands, UNC’s best bet is a trip to the First Four in Dayton. Otherwise, UNC will likely be watching March Madness from Chapel Hill.
