MANHATTAN — The Kansas State women's basketball team had better be prepared to travel for the first rounds of the NCAA Tournament.

By losing three of their last four games, the Wildcats almost certainly fell off the No. 4 seed line and with it lost the chance to stay home for the first two rounds. The 16 seeds serve as hosts before moving on to the four regionals — two in Birmingham, Alabama, and two in Spokane, Washington.

The NCAA selection committee will reveal its brackets in a Selection Sunday show at 7 p.m. central time on ESPN.

Bracketology experts are nearly unanimous in placing K-State (26-7) as a No. 5 with the most likely destination Oxford, Mississippi, or Columbus, Ohio. ESPN's Charlie Creme and Megan Gauer of Herhoopstats.com both have the Wildcats in a Spokane regional with No. 4 seed Mississippi in their latest projections Friday.

A year ago, Gonzaga's loss in its conference tournament opened the door for K-State to move up to a No. 4 seed and the Wildcats played host for the first two rounds. The Wildcats knocked off Portland in the opener but then fell to No. 5 seed Colorado in the second round.

This year, there was little jockeying with most of the seeds locked in early. K-State also was a projected No. 5 seed by NCAA.com and CBS Sports.

The one hope for K-State is the NET rating tool, which has the Wildcats at No. 9, the highest among teams not on the top two seed lines. But holding them back in the NET is their 2-6 record against Quad 1 opponents, which is the worst among the top 20.

K-State's chances should improve with the anticipated return of center Ayoka Lee from a pair of foot injuries that forced her to miss over a dozen games at the end of the regular season and in the Big 12 Tournament. The fifth-seeded Wildcats were knocked out of the Big 12 Tournament by No. 4 West Virginia in the quarterfinals after beating Central Florida in the second round.
