Though Penn State is famously known as "Linebacker U," the school's storied football program has produced its fair share of excellent tight ends in recent years.
A Nittany Lions tight end has been selected in the NFL draft in three of the past four years. Even prior to that run, coach James Franklin's program sent the likes of Mike Gesicki and Jesse James into the NFL.
This year, Penn State may have its best prospect yet at the position.

Tyler Warren was a force for the Nittany Lions during the 2024 season, catching 104 passes for 1,233 yards and eight touchdowns, along with 218 rushing yards and four touchdowns on just 26 carries. While helping lead Penn State to appearances in the Big Ten championship game and the semifinals of the College Football Playoff, Warren was named the winner of the John Mackey Award, given annually to the most outstanding tight end in college football.
His production in college and his physical gifts have made Warren one of the most coveted players in the 2025 NFL draft. The question now is, where will he land?
With the draft beginning with Thursday night's first round from Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin, here's a closer look at where various mock drafts have Warren projected to be taken:
Here's where NFL draft analysts have Warren going in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft:
"The Bears are in a position to draft the best available after their offseason moves. With Will Campbell, Ashton Jeanty and Armand Membou all off the board, Tyler Warren could very well be the guy. Ben Johnson had high praise for Warren, where it sounds like he’s already scheming up all the different ways to utilize him on offense. Even new Bears defensive coordinator Dennis Allen made it clear how much of a headache it would be to go against a player like Warren."
"With the Saints again resisting the full reset many have wondered about, there's no clear direction for Kellen Moore to take things in Year 1. Warren could at least somewhat solve that, as the versatile threat could do plenty of heavy lifting for the Saints' uneven receiving corps."
"New coach Ben Johnson would love having Warren in his offense. At 6-foot-6, Warren lines up just about anywhere, will consistently be a mismatch for defenders and can catch everything thrown in his neighborhood. The Bears focused on improving their offensive line in free agency, and now they can get Caleb Williams an elite playmaker."
"This is a pairing that grew on me the more and more I considered it. Ben Johnson runs a decent amount of '12' personnel, which would get both Warren and Cole Kmet on the field (Kmet also has no guaranteed money left on his deal after this season). Warren can be for Chicago what Sam LaPorta was to Detroit the last two seasons."
"Warren is a fascinating prospect who showed in his time at Penn State that he's capable of doing a little bit of everything on offense. He did not kick field goals at Penn State, but I bet he can do that too. Catching passes will be enough for the Colts, though."

Here's a scouting report from USA TODAY's Ayrton Ostly on Warren:
"Warren won the John Mackey Award in 2024 for good reason as Penn State used him all over the formation. He's a playmaker with surprising athleticism for his 6-foot-5, 256-pound frame with the demeanor to block in the run game, as well."
Ostly compared Warren to Dallas Goedert of the reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles.
