No #1 seed advances to Final Four.

I haven't done any research....but has this ever happened in the last 20 years?? Off the top of my head I can't recall it.

EDIT: Poll answers my question.

1980 is the last year.

I saw George Mason a couple times through the year. Thought they'd be tough....didn't think they'd be able to beat MSU, but play them tough.

The thing that is surprising to me is how many Big name coaches were out by round 2. Izzo, Boeheim, Lute and Roy Williams.

BTW--GM has a great chance to win this whole thing. They can bang with Florida, and if LSU advances them as well.

Best game they've played yet in the Tourney. Jai Lewis finally stepped up. He'll need to play big again Saturday to try and occupy Noah's attention.

Mason because I hadn't seen them before this tournament and had no idea how good they are.

I also love the contrast, Skinn their best scorer hits a guy in the nuts and the coach suspends him for the first game of the NCAA tourney risking total elimination. Marcus Williams commits a crime along with a teammate and Calhoun suspends the teammate(who wasn't going to play anyways due to his health) for the year and Williams for ~ 10 games for the same offense.

Poetic justice that Mason takes UConvict out.

Very nice poetic justice for Calhoun.

I like that - UConvict.

I think by now George mason should be seen as an underdog. Look at the teams they went through. They are legit.

George Mason, far and away.

Keep in mind, this is a team that was hugely criticized for even MAKING the tournament. To say any of us expected them to get to the Final Four, let alone beating North Carolina, Michigan State and UConn to get there would be falsifying the truth.

Truthfully, I'm saying it now.. Should GMU manage to get by Florida, I would NOT want to face them in the Championship Game.

I think Florida and George Mason are the two best teams in the tournament up to this point.

This Final Four, however, is crazy. At this point, it wouldn't be a shock to see any one of those teams win it all.

yep,UCLA had the biggest first round margin of victory but has won the next 3 games by a combined 10 points including the incredibly lucky win over Gonzaga. GMU and Florida have been the most consistent.

I love UCLA but they had a 7 minute run with no baskets saturday in the first half, and an 8 minute run with none in the 2nd half, and won. They went nearly 7 minutes without a FG against Bama and over 8 to start the game against Gonzaga. they have had scoring droughts all year but this tournament has really exacerbated the problem. So even I won't argue they're playing the best ball right now, just the best defense.
