Poll coming...

Which school will be going after the same pool of candidates - which is more attractive to a coach?

UCLA just can't seem to compete against USC for the local recruiting talent.

Football probably ASU. Basketball is #1 at UCLA probably always will be. I guess you could argue a great hire could change that since basketball is struggling this season too. But generally speaking there's much more support for UCLA basketball from alums than football.

No way... Even UCLA is a more presitigous coaching opportunity that is ASU football!

UCLA has played in 12 Rose Bowls. ASU has played in 2. UCLA is located in southern Cal. ASU is in Tempe.
ASU hardly ever produces NFL draft picks - let alone first rounders... I don't know for sure, but my hunch is that UCLA produces more.

ASU can't even keep the best AZ High School talent from leaving the state. And they certainly can't recruit top talent from outside AZ. Suggs was the last top-talent to come out of the program...
Out of stater Burfict didn't make ASU his first choice and he's certainly not a first round talent.

Maybe you just answered the question of which one USED TO BE the more attractive job. Neither one is going to pay top dollar, guess which area that salary will go farther in? It might have been nice living in driving distance of UCLA a few generations ago but not so much anymore. Also, UCLA hasn't exactly been a regular participant in the Rose Bowl in quite some time. If you look a little deeper you'll see both schools have gone there twice in the past 24 years.

This poll question gets answered by the football experts fairly often. Not once have I heard them refer to UCLA as a sleeping giant but rarely does a year go by that ASU isn't mentioned in that manner. Neither of these football programs have much to cheer about but ASU has the added advantage of not playing in the shadow of the Trojans. For a lot of So Cal kids that had their dreams crushed when USC didn't come calling, Tempe is often the more attractive option. Throw in the academic eligibility issues and ASU wins in a landslide.

I think the 2 programs are comparable. A lot might depend on the coach. I read that the guy from Houston loves the valley. Some people hate LA, others love it. UCLA is always playing in the shadow of USC.

IMO ASU currently has a better chance of becoming a PAC 12 contender than UCLA.
