This is silly, but I just felt like making a poll. Who figures to provide the most bang for the buck over the remainder of his current deal? For each player, I've given his salary for this year (except Stoudemire), then the year that the contract is up. I handled options by what I thought the most likely scenario is -- Nash's team option will probably be declined in favor of the buyout; Jones will probably opt out in the summer of 2008, etc.

Take into account that someone who is dirt-cheap now, but up for renewal soon, may end up costing a lot more in the long run.

Edit: Hmm, apparently the "Disable Smilies" box that I checked means something other than "disable smilies." Replace the faces with 2008.

I picked Raja. His contract is pretty cheap for what he brings to the team. His defense is really important to the team and his offense is better than advertised at times. The biggest factor to me is that we've got our big 3 on max (or close to max) contracts and we need quality players at a discount to keep us competitive. I also like James Jones's contract assuming he keeps improving every year. Hopefully we can extend Boris for under $5 million season (around the same contract as Raja would be great). Same thing for Barbosa.

I vote Stoudemire. You build dynasties around players like that, no matter what the cost. Maybe you should have left him and maybe Nash out of it. If you had left them out, I'd vote for James Jones on his potential or Raja Bell for his current production....

11.9 PPG, 6.6 RPG, 5.8 APG, .74SPG, 1.06BPG all for 1.1 million? I thought this was an easy pick.

Edit: Even if we consider long run, he'll still be a steal.

If we end up with a championship, then it has to be Stoudemire. But right now Im gonna say Raja, he brings a tenacity on defense that this team needs.

I voted Amare, with some contracts it doesn't matter so much the amount as it does whose names are on it.

That deal has AMARE STOUDEMIRE and the PHOENIX SUNS on it--the CBA limitations guarantee the Suns a bargain.

So, why don't you do a poll on the LEAST favorable contract?

Marion? He is one of the top 3-4 SF's in the league and he can be that effective without being the first option.

Jim Jackson? How can ANY expiring deal be that bad.

KT? Its alot, and he seems to be declining, but its not really that much compared to what other similar big men are getting.

The fact that its hard to find any really bad contract on this roster is a testament to the saavy of BC and JC.

Sorry, starting one silly poll per day is my limit.

For least favorable, I think I would have to go with Marion. He's been a savior with Stoudemire out, and he's a good fit for this team, but I suspect the Suns could find someone who brings almost as much to the table for about half the price. And I'm starting to think that his defense is highly overrated.

To everyone else: I don't have time today to respond to any "Why do you hate Marion?" tirades, sorry. I don't hate Marion, knowwhatimsayin?

Heh, well, let's be fair. Anything about "least favorable contract" pretty much has to be negative, doesn't it? You already took the easy way out by saying that there isn't one. ;)

If Amare is anything like the same player when he comes back, he's got the most favorable contract by far. The max contract rules are in place to prevent guys like Amare from getting $30m/yr on the open market.

If Amare is Chris Webber when he comes back (I'm starting to feel this is unlikely), then Steve Nash is the Suns' best contract. Diaw would be in the running, except his contract only lasts for another year.

Worst contract for the Suns is Kurt Thomas, easily. Remember, the Suns could have signed McDyess for less money before last year, and they didn't even consider it.

I went with Nash. MVP for about 75% of a max deal is very nice. I think you could take him and fill the team with a bunch of quality role players and have a competitive team. I guess that's what the Suns are now. I wonder how we'd do without Marion too. Maybe Nash does need one other star.

Yeah, but that was when we thought he'd be coming off the bench behind Joe Johnson and his max contract. Plus, I don't think many people thought he would contribute as much as he has offensively.

Now as a starter and producing as he has, he's a bargain and he's the essential mid-level priced player that we need to complement our big 3 stars.

Yeah, he’s a great complement. I think I heard last night that he was 2nd in the league in 3 pointers made. That’s awesome, and I think he shoots something like 43%. Another reason I think Nash’s contract is the best, he can make good players great because he puts them in positions to succeed.

Well, since Marion and Thomas are the only ones without votes, I guess they're sort of the leaders for "least favorable contract" my default.

I voted for Nash also, but that's because I'm figuring he's underpaid this year and next, to balance out how much he'll be overpaid at the end. He's certainly performing at a max-contract level right now.

(Close enough, right, JCSunsFan?)

What about Brian Grant for "best contract"? Anyone who costs Jerry Buss that much money gets a ton of extra points in my book.

I took House just to be contrary, but I would think he may be one of the best players for the price in the NBA.

Nash, because he's definitively playing at MVP level right now and deserving max-contract money.

And he's the guy who makes all the other players look like underpaid bargains, after all.

I picked Boris Diaw, because I can't let elindholm be the only contrarian on this board.

I also think Marion is overpaid, but I can't think of another player who can do the things he does for the Suns.

Poor Shawn gets no love. I guess he doesn't have the best contract, but at least I think we can say he is not overpaid!

This is the reasoning behind my vote. Nash all the way.

Hey guys,

I don't know much about this NBA salary/contract stuff but who has higher salary than Nash as point guards? AI? How much more is that? Or, is Nash the highest in terms of point guard pay?
