Randy's been with these teams (rough estimate in years)

Seattle (9 seasons)
Arizona (5 seasons)

One can argue his best years (exclude last year) were in arizona (cy youngs and WS ring)...but he has logged in the most years in seattle.

From my understanding a player no longer has the choice of "choosing" which hat to wear when inducted into the hall.

So which is it?

You are correct that it is no longer the individual player's choice.....

As I mentioned on another thread, I believe it will be the Dbacks though since he's the 1st player in the history of their franchise to achieve greatness/immortality in their uniform (hat)......

Edit: Case in point... look at Gary Carter...He was inducted in an Expos, because he was their 1st elite calibre player in the their history... in spite the fact that he won a WS with the Mets....

not reading your reply.. Randy's best years where in Arizona and he had his consecutive Cy Youngs here. Obviously he should wear a Az Hat.

Randy's major accomplishments have been with the D'backs. I believe the HOF would choose that . . .

Unless, of course, Randy starts for a couple more seasons with the Angels, Red Sox, whoever, then becomes baseball's best closer for another five.

All of his accomplishments came with the d-backs. When I think of Randy and the Mariners, I think of the mullet.

As I said in another thread, Carter's career years were with the Expos.

Montreal: 11+ seasons (including '92 - he even retired a Spo) 1583 hits, 794 RBI, 215 HR, .316 BA
New York: 5 seasons
542 hits, 349 RBI, 89 HR, .249 BA

It wasn't really close. People just remember Carter touching home in the '86 series, and people seem to think that the many Expo fans who loved Carter from '74-'84 don't count.

As for Randy, since hitting his stride, aside from his injury year he's been incredibly consistent. However, categorically, his best years are as follows:

All Star: 5 Sea, 4 AZ
Cy Young: 1 Sea, 4 AZ
Top 10 MVP: 1 Sea, 1 AZ
Best ERA: 1 Sea, 3 AZ
Most Wins: 0 Sea, 1 AZ
Most SO: 4 Sea, 4 AZ
Fewest hits: 4 Sea, 1 AZ
Best W-L%: 2 Sea, 1 AZ
Best WHIP: 1 Sea, 1 AZ
Fewest BB: 2 Sea, 0 AZ
Most CG: 1 Sea, 3 AZ
Most shutouts: 1 Sea, 1 AZ
Playoff Appearances: 2 Sea, 3 AZ
Championships: 0 Sea, 1 AZ
No hitters: 1 Sea, 1 AZ
Perfect games: 0 Sea, 1 AZ

Given that he's been in AZ only 60% of the time he was in Seattle, I might be inclined to give AZ the edge (but of course, I am a fan). Given his stature in AZ compared to Seattle, though, I think he'll wear the Diamondbacks cap.
