But if the team's off-season plan works, it won't have to address the position until later in the draft.

The Cardinals are hoping Faneca plays another year, and they believe they have a good chance of re-signing Sendlein, who has played five years, and Lutui, who has been in the NFL six seasons.

"We didn't play well enough last year in a lot of areas," said Whisenhunt, whose team went 5-11. "It's definitely an area you want to make sure you continue to build."

But Whisenhunt would be pleased if all five starters returned for 2011. That means the team could address other areas with its highest draft slot since 2007.
Matt Williamson's take:

Offensive line: As bad off as Arizona is at quarterback and outside linebacker, the situation isn’t much better with its offensive line. No Cardinals offensive lineman played well last season. Center Lyle Sendlein was the best of the bunch by a pretty substantial margin, but he is up for free agency. In fact, Cardinals linemen Alan Faneca, Deuce Lutui and Brandon Keith, all of whom saw significant snaps last season, are also up for free agency -- and that might not be a bad thing. Left tackle Levi Brown was the worst of the bunch, but finding a major upgrade at left tackle will be the most difficult of the starting five. This team has a lot of major problems.

If Whiz wants all five starters to remain then he is as dumb as a box of rocks. We need at least 3 new starters. Our O-line needs some serious upgrade.

I am sure Grimm will "coach 'em up".

Are they already trying to lower our expectations with things like this?

I'm really not sure why anyone is shocked...continuity on the Oline helped lead us to a Super Bowl. The shuffled Oline from the year before played a factor in how bad they played IMO. I believe we will add a OT somewhere in the draft because I can't see Levi lasting past 2011.

This is just killing me.

Today in the NFL you need 3 things.

1. QB that can throw
2. Pass Rush
3. Pass Protection

Cards have none of the 3.

Pass protection is looking pretty shaky at the moment. Clifton is too old to be relied on even though he made the Pro Bowl and Colledge just sucks. Wells isn't anything special, and Bulaga was a rookie.

They performed admirably in the playoffs but we need to upgrade, especially considering Rodgers' concussion history

I'll trade our 5 uglies for those guys anyday!!! We as fans would think the '70's oline of Dierdorf, Dobler, Banks, Young & Finnie were back wearing red.

I am not surprised in the least.

While many of us expect change in this position I couldn't see the Cardinals looking into free agency for a player, and if they draft a player they will not start them right away.

So, another year of Sendlein, another year of Levi Brown. I personally can live with Faneca, Lutui, and Keith, but those three are "solid" at best.

If we draft a G/C, and we draft an OT. Then I will feel better about the situation. Plus I like our depth as well in Hadnot and Bridges.

But, it is tough to think of the fact we will have another year with a liability at LT, and backup talent at center.

If we don't trade back I'd love to see Moffit and Barksdale in rounds 3 and 4.

Hoping that Alan Faneca comes back does not sound like a good plan for the future.

Just saw the Whiz on TV saying he is looking for a QB to be "accountable". He mentioned Warner was "accountable" and would let Whiz know what was going on..on the field. Said communication between he and Kurt was a big reason for the success and that Kurt would run the plays that were called.

Getting away from the Warner would run the plays that were called funnyness...

Who is Whiz describing here? Sounds like he has somebody in mind, sounds to me like a experienced re-tread again. Doesn't sound very first round QB to me and that's what I was listening for. :(

McNaab, Bulger, someone like that would be my guess. So much for the future.

I don't care if he wants to keep the 5 players he had, I would be really upset if he said they weren't looking to upgrade the position at all over the offseason.

I don't have much of a problem with our players, but I want to make sure that the coaching staff keeps bringing in young guys like Moffitt or Brewer or Carimi or Cannon or Pouncey or Watkins to compete and push for those starting spots.

I've been telling you all along Dawg that they aren't drafting a QB early. Wiz can't afford to with what took place last year & then there's the possibilty of losing Fitz. I really wouldn't be suprised if the Redbirds didn't draft any QB this year given the circumstances & that he has 2 youngs guys on the roster.

WHy do you consider that funnyness. Are you implying that Whiz is lying?
Whiz said he's really excited about Skelton. I think he's our future and the plan is to bring in a vet until he's ready.

I like Skelton getting the start, he has earned it. IMO
