Whisenhunt: Rhodes, coaches won't clash
The Jets traded safety Kerry Rhodes to the Cardinals at least in part because Rhodes had clashed with coaches.
"It was just a situation where we weren’t seeing eye-to-eye as a team, as a player, and as a franchise," Rhodes told reporters Monday in Arizona.
The earlier item about connecting the dots in free agency hints at why Arizona feels Rhodes won't face similar troubles in Arizona. The Cardinals' new secondary coach, Donnie Henderson, was the Jets' defensive coordinator when the team drafted Rhodes.
"The communication, the level of comfort that you have going in, is about as good as you can have with a player in this situation," Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt told reporters Monday. "I think that we've always been open, here in this organization since I've been here, about communicating with our players and that hasn’t been an issue, with a couple of notable exceptions. But we obviously feel good about it."
As for what Rhodes brings as a player? Matt Williamson of Scouts Inc. offered his take earlier. Whisenhunt offered thoughts Monday.
"The thing that I liked about Kerry is he’s versatile," Whisenhunt said. "I think that he brings a lot of things to the table as far as being able to play the deep half, play the middle of the field, come down near the line of scrimmage, be a blitzer. Those are all kind of things that are important to that position, that are important to our defense and as we are able to integrate those things, hopefully it will make us little bit more consistent this year, which is one of our focuses."
