Draft Day(s)

I'll be at home, dressed in a Cards cap and tee shirt with a Cards banner on my bookcase. TV and radio (ESPN radio) on along with my computer. Can't wait.

Larry who? I am kinda burnt out on the draft speculation. I'll be in Laughlin partying with bikers and staring at lovely young hardbodies wearing dental floss bikinis. I will check on the first day picks sometime Sunday though.

I'll be at the Cards facility, staring at Jody Jackson's legs out of boredom and because she has very fine ones aaaaall the way up to her arse.

It really is not much fun. Can't drink alcohol. I pass on the sugar pill donuts. There is only one TV and those of us interested crowd around it. Many don't. The mainstream media are working. Making cell phone calls, typing on laptops, schmoozing, lining up interviews.

Gambo and the 910 crew set up at a table outside the media room and blast their program loudly. Jurecki and KDUS do the same at another table.

The rest of us set up our laptops at booths around the interior of the media room. I'm buried in the corner because most booths are reserved for bigger media players than ASFN.

Cards picks are usually quickly available by phone for conference call interviews. Cards' Media guys Greg Gladysiewski and Chris Melvin hand out info on our draft picks for use if we desire.

The day drags. Last year it was really gloomy because everybody hated the trade and the picks. Reporters, most having good command of the language, can be very effectively sarcastic and cynical when riled. I felt sorry for the Cards officials in the room. The coverage though, was very fair and restrained.

We tend to bash the media for their Cards coverage but it's brutal covering a lousy team. There are only so many ways to spin "Cards suck". I guarantee you many of the media members I've met would like nothing better than to be able to report positive things in an upbeat manner.

Eventually, Rod Graves and Denny Green will come down and talk to us, probably right after our 2nd round pick is made.

It sucks and I wouldn't miss it under any condition because I just love it and you really do pick up gems of information.

Then I'll leave, go have a few brews and a good steak at Fleming's just down the road. Go home and come right back an hour earlier the next day for rounds 4 through 7. By day 2, many of the media are gone.

It's a privilege and a blast. I'll be online all day and will share if I get anything good.

The last draft party I went to with Pdonaldo at Rockin Rodeo had a lot of that stuff going on there. Several of the Bidwill family were there all morning, live radio broadcasts, reporters and players as well. Mr B himself came by for quite a while.

For those who have been to both, have things changed with the move to Jackson's?

What better way to bond with your Lil Sis/Bro than drinking beer and watching the draft, and cursing the TV when the Card's draft Winslow at 3. :p

I already took Sat night off (I work Thur, Fri, Sat, and Sun nights normally), so I'll probably try to go to bed as soon as I get home Sat. morning and wake up around 11 in the morning, for the start. The real key will be convincing the wife and kids that I'm still sleeping so they won't come into the bedroom and bother me. :D I'm sure my wife could come up with a long list of things to do once she finds out I'm off, and it would be a shame if I had to tell her to shove that list!!!!!

It's gonna suck.

I wrote the draft date in my wife's calendar months ago. She knows this is one day out of the year where I can't/won't be bothered with any distractions. (It has taken me several years to get her to allow me the whole day to myself for the draft.)

This will be my fourth year in the chat room. I'll have a TV next to the computer with ESPN going. I'm considering running a second TV this year for the NFL channel.

Food? Pizza and diet Pepsi....breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Frankley, I'd scrap it all for 10 minutes at Cardinal HQ with Skkorp. Very cool gig!

Go Cards!!!

Sounds fun but my Little is only 14

Maybe I'll buy him a Cards shirt and try to convert him. The young are impressionable you know!

Classic. Post of the day. I'd love to have been a fly on the wall in that room when the pick was made.
