Oh hell yeah. How can you go wrong with a lineup of Johnny Depp, Mickey Rourke, and Willem Dafoe? All we're missing is Patrick Swayze! I guess Enrique Iglesias will have to do.

Looks like a whole lot of fun.

Can't wait! This is going to be rockin'!

Mainly because of Salma (who has been my fave for years now), but also for the rest of the cast.

All that's missing is Christopher Walken, and this film would be a who's who of my favorite actors/actresses in Hollywood! :D

Stupid question of the month. Is this movie somehow connected with Desperado what with Banderas and Hayek?

Yes it is - it's the third movie in the series.

I really like El Mariachi. Rumor has it that most of the film was done with first shots - no re-takes., due to budget.

If so, that is truly incredible. Can anyone confirm this.

Also, I have seen the dubbed version and also the subtitled one - I like the subtitled version better. Anyone else seen both?

Aslo, one of the friends at the end of Desperado is the original El Mariachi.

Me & my wife absolutley loved Desperado. We have seen it 3 times in the theaters and many more on cable. In matter of fact, it is the movie that he have seen most in the theater. We saw Titanic twice  and Shawshank twice.

Not MOST. THE ENTIRE FILM WAS DONE IN SINGLE TAKES.

Totally amazing. Rodriguez maxed his credit cards and even sold plasma to finance the film.

I used to not care for Desperado. El Mariachi was so indie and gritty and tough. Desperado pissed me off casue it felt like a huge budget remake of a perfect film, and I was bummed at Rodriguez for making it. But I watched it a few mroe times, and he really did know what he was doing. Taking all that cash, and turning it into a huge over the top campy action flick.

can't wait for this final installment

All I can say is figure out a way to pick up Rebel Without A Crew, which is an account of how he made El Mariachi. I never really liked Robert Rodriguez until I read that book, now I think he's great. Keep in mind he does just about everything in his movies--directing, writing, cinematography, special effects, sound, music supervising...

Early reviews of this film are very good. Even Bill Muller, the Arizona Republic's critic liked it. That makes me nervous. I am sure Johnny Depp steals the show. Looks like it is defintely his year.

I liked it. But I also knew going into this that it would be another Rodriguez film.

Love the guy. One of the nicest guys in filmmaking. He's single-handedly changing how movies are made and I love that.

That said, just because he can do everything doesn't always mean that he needs to. Some of the special effects looked really photoshopped. I know he likes to do it all himself but sometimes you just need to bring somebody in who knows what they're doing.

Really liked the action, though. Kept you from realizing how shallow it all was in the end. But if you're looking for cheap thrills and a fun time you could do much worse.

I liked it quite a bit.

Depp does indeed steal the show. It is a stylish shoot em up. Nothing more, but the imagery is really cool.

The movie starts off with Cheech Marin telling a story involing El Mariachi. It has some rediculous cinema action in the flashback. He says:

"Some parts I may have exaggerated a bit."

Basically the entire movie is like that. You feel like you are watching someone tell you an old legend.

I would watch it again.

it was decent - no DESPERADO or EL MARIACHI - decent action scenes - but Depp steals the show again - all the stuff with him and the kid at the end is awesome unbelievably unrealistic - but awesome nonethless.

Watched it tonight - it was okay, but as cheesebeef said - it was no Desperado. I enjoyed the way that Rodriguez was going for the "over-the-top" feel and acting. He really captured that part of it and that, to me, made the movie watchable. Well, that and Johnny Depp's performance - man is he funny.

Saw this today, I liked it of course, for what it was. I think Desperado was probably better, but this was still decent.

I finally saw it tonight, and it was just ok. Too many characters, too many big names. Johnny Depp was great, but who really cared? There were too many doublecrosses and switching sides all the time.

Add to that the fact that it really didn't FEEL as much like a Rodriguez film. The editing was vintage Robert Rodriguez, but I have to say the cinematography was pretty bad. I understand a quick-moving camera, but overloading the movie with several shots that serve no real purpose--and then loading it with shots that were pretty much just thrown together, it just didn't feel right. Obviously, he didn't study Hitchcock much, who storyboarded just about everything. Here, storyboards were probably non-existant.

Recently watched it. I wasn't quite this bored, but I did find myself losing interest. What a letdown after watching Desperado. I agree with your Depp statement too.
