The spring high school sports season is officially underway in the Greater Taunton area.
Last week, Taunton baseball got off to a hot start while the new baseball coaches at Bridgewater-Raynham and Bristol-Plymouth earned their first wins in their first games. A Bridgewater-Raynham tennis player extended his match winning streak to 13 while Bridgewater-Raynham track and field had a dominant showing at the Trojan Invitational and Taunton volleyball earned their first ever Hockomock League win over Attleboro in the league's debut boys volleyball season. Bridgewater-Raynham, Bristol-Plymouth and Dighton-Rehoboth all had at least one player record a hat trick.
The Taunton Daily Gazette High School Boys Athlete of the Week for Feb. 24-March 2 is Taunton wrestling's Mike Leskoski, receiving 69% of the vote. Taunton hockey's Jameson Vallarelli came in second with 23% while Taunton basketball's Dray Thielker received 4% to finish third and round out the Tiger sweep of the top three.

Escobalez tossed five shutout innings giving up three hits while striking out eight and went 1-for-3 at the plate against Foxboro.
Ritchie went 2-for-4 with a run and a pair of RBIs against Barnstable.
Weldon tossed 6⅓ innings giving up two unearned runs on three hits and three walks while striking out six and went 1-for-2 with a pair of runs against Old Colony.
Matos had a pair of goals against Somerset Berkley.
Kelleher had a hat trick against Apponequet.
Nickerson had four goals and an assist against Upper Cape Tech.
Swan had four goals and an assist against Norton.
Beckwith won first singles 6-1, 6-2 to extend his winning streak to 13 against Barnstable.
Moreira won the 110 meter hurdles (0:16.2, personal best) in a dual meet against Attleboro.
Galvin won both the the 100 meter (0:11.08, personal best) and the long jump (20'8") and was part of the winning 4x100 meter relay team (0:46.32) at the Trojan Invitational.
Correy won both the 100 meter (0:11.21) and the long jump (18') in a dual meet against Tri-County.
Johnson had 12 kills, six aces and a pair of blocks against Silver Lake.
Bessette had 13 kills and five blocks against Westwood.
