Any early ideas?

guessing we don't have the rights to tim thomas? meaning we have to go into the MLE to sign him?

well, they don't really have much room under the tax right now which is why you're hearing so many trade rumors.

Don't forget about the trade exception they have that is likely to expire w/o use.

After the draft things will start to fall in order.

The Suns need backcourt depth at both positions. If there's a passable combo guard out there, he'd be useful on the deep bench.

It really depends on what we do in the draft and what other teams end up offering Tim Thomas. If we can get a backup PG and/or SG in the draft, then I could see the Suns giving all or almost all of the MLE to TT. If someone offers TT $7+ mil to go somewhere else then he might be gone (although he's said winning is more important than the money....I'll believe it when I see it). If TT is gone, we'll still have James Jones, Grant and either Diaw or KT coming off the bench at the F/C positions.

There's also a chance we draft a PF/C (replacing TT) and then need to use the MLE to go after a backup PG or SG (if they really think Barbosa can handle PG duties, which I don't think he can). The list of available free agents that was posted in another thread really didn't look too promising for the guys that can probably be had with the MLE.

Technically we have the MLE and a trade exception that we can use, but we won't unless we clear enough off salaries to avoid the luxury tax.

Based upon what Tim T said, he would probably stay if he got the full MLE.

I doubt the Phoenix Suns use the mid-level exception unless they move some salary first.
