Sacramento Receives:
Leandro Barbosa
Alando Tucker
Johan Petro
Why Sacramento Does It:
They've been shopping Salmons, they covet Barbosa. But they have to give something up and that's Hawes. They like Hawes, but they get to take fliers on Tucker and Petro too. And they can still move Artest to fill holes if they need to. But they walk away with probably the best player in the trade.
Why Oklahoma City Does It:
They dump Watson, and lose a bunch of players that are serious question marks, especially on that team. Wilcox is useful, but they like Collison better. They also get two veterans who actually know how to play in a team environment who can help Westbrook and Durant along, as well as adding the best raw big man prospect in the trade: Hawes. Add on the second rounder for good measure, and they're stabilizing their team, adding a young big, dumping a bad contract of a player they don't have room for, and not losing anything of real value to them, other than maybe Wilkens.
Why Phoenix Does It:
The Suns get rid of three rotation players whose roles on the team are unclear going into next season. But they get back 4 guys with a legitimate-to-guaranteed chance of making the rotation, plus a young big that they coveted a few years ago in the draft. It also saves them money down the line, plus fills all the spots they've been trying to fill, and couldn't, in free agency.
1. Nash
2. Hill
3. Stoudemire
4. Shaq
5. Salmons
6. Wilcox
7. Wilkens
8. Watson
9. Strawberry
10. Lopez
11. Sene
That's a deep, deep team. They can withstand injuries and play versatile basketball. You have 3 legit rotation bigs, plus Lopez and Sene to fill in spot minutes and develop during injuries. You have three guys capable of playing point guard behind Nash, and your wings are Hill/Salmons/Wilkens/Strawberry.
