This question applies to any band you can think of... who was the real genius behind the band's existance? Some to me are obvious.. whereas others arent... perhaps some of the following might be ones that you may disagree with..... or... in some instances there are ones that every member was the genius to a degree.....
I'll just start with my general list for now:
1) the Who: Pete Townshend- He really has always dictated the course of the band through his innovative and sophisticated style... both in terms of musically and lyrically.. he defines the Who
2) the Beatles: John Lennon was the creative force (mainly with his 1st person narrative lyrics), however, Paul McCartney was in terms of arranging the music.....
3) Rolling Stones: In the beginning it was Brian Jones who set them on their path through his devout following of the Blues and his versatility on many instruments, but.... in some cases now...Ron Wood has steered them in a different direction... Im not underestimating both Mick & Keith here who are both geniuses in their own regards, but to me Jones and later Wood's contributions have had a more major impact in some regards...
4) Alice-in-Chains: Jerry Cantrell and Layne Staley both shared those titles for obvious reasons.....
5) Led Zeppelin: Jimmy Page.... He was the catalyst of the band that really launched them in the right direction, but later on Plant's progression as a song-writer really propelled them to further heights.....
That's all I'll list for now......
