PROVIDENCE − The St. John's Red Storm played like the No. 2 seed they are in dispatching the No. 15 Omaha Mavericks, 83-53, to cap a full day of Round 1 NCAA men's basketball action at the Amica Mutual Pavilion on Thursday.

The Big East champion Johnnies were up just 33-28 at halftime, but found their scoring touch in the second half, running away from the Mavericks to extend their stay in Rhode Island.

Coach Rick Pitino’s group is advancing to the Round of 32 after a strong second-half performance paced by RJ Luis Jr.'s 22 points, one of four Red Storm players in double-figures.
