"The difficulty we do immediately; the impossible takes a little longer." That must be the new Rangers theme and here's how
The difficulty was Chris Drury managing to take a Presidents' Trophy-winner and then turning it into the garbage of a non-playoff club in one easy year.
The impossible was His Majesty Drury being knighted with a new contract as if he suddenly has become a conquering hero. (Ergo: Logic becomes insanity.)
Apart from MSG, the only other place where this malpractice could happen is in "Dr. Neff's Madhouse of Mysteries" – and that act faded decades ago.

Rangers Reward Chris Drury With Multi-Year Contract ExtensionThe New York Rangers have agreed on a multi-year contract extension with team president and general manager Chris Drury. "Garden boss Jim Dolan loves Drury," says The Old Scout, "and also a media lackey or two who love him. That's all you need to know because – obviously – competence does not factor into this contract equation."
That's why The Maven has been publically predicting in this column for weeks that Drury would stay. Chris had his politics in order and that was all that mattered. Logic be damned!
"As long as he held on to the GM gig," adds The Old Scout, "and the Knicks were distracting Dolan, Drury was in a position to pull all the right strings."
Another key element that all the "Insiders" have failed to figure is "The Dolan Effect."
MSG's boss never has been one to buck public opinion, Rangers fan opinion, nor the NBA Commissioner, for that matter. Jim is his own man; and that's that.
The Old Scout: "If anything, Dolan loves a fight and he'll take on anybody if he believes in his cause or his guy. In this case it's Drury whether the fans – or the media – like it or not."
And speaking of "likes," The Maven's gut tells me that Drury likes Rick Tocchet enough to name him the next Rangers coach. Just a gut feeling; that's all. We shall see what we shall see.

James Dolan Reportedly Considering Taking A More Active Role In Rangers' Exit Meetings With PlayersAfter the disastrous season the New York Rangers just went through, team owner James Dolan may be ready to take a more hands on approach. If it happens, that would be number four coach for Drury, but why should Chris care, if Dolan doesn't? And Jimmy's too involved with his Knicks to worry about a little thing like the next Rangers coach!
If The Maven is wrong, I shall be happy to acknowledge the same. Meanwhile, enjoy "The Rangers Follies, 2025."
