I really have a numb feeling right now.

I woke up at 5am to watch this on SOPCAST with Spanish broadcasters. I was giddy when we got up by 16 and honestly thought we would pull this one out.

Everytime Spurs would close within 5, the Suns would quickly build it back to a 7-10 point margin.

Finley's 3 hurt, Barbosa taking the following shot hurt more. Amare fouling out on an offensive foul when we were up by 3 didn't bother me so much as I thought that the Spurs were out of miracles.

Enter Tim Duncan. He and Steve Nash have gigantic ballas of steel.

What is more likely to happen?

  • Spurs hitting two free throws, Suns missing one of two, Spurs tying the game with a layup
  • Duncan hitting his first 3-point shot of the season to tie the game

Why didn't the Spurs foul in the second overtime before Nash tied the game? Same decision, same result. The better question is why did we allow a wide open shot.

I have seen tons of big three's made. I rarely ever see a team miss the second free throw on purpose, get the rebound, and then make a shot. IF YOU ARE AHEAD BY THREE WITH UNDER 20 SECONDS LEFT, FOUL EVERY TIME!!

I think the first one was just Finley getting the ball and getting the shot up real quickly.

The second, I mean, honestly, who here was feeling good when it looked like Duncan was going to shoot the 3?

We could of fouled Manu and there would have only been about 6-8 seconds left. I would have liked that more.

Sure, but I think at that point the fear is he gets an and-1 on his shot.

Doesn't really matter now, the Spurs hit some big shots and they got the win.

we can find excuses all we want, bottomline is we lost. Fouling on either of those defensive stances would have most likely netted us the win. Even Van Gundy was saying go for the foul. We would have won this game :(

if we foul like a bunch of wussies (ie, like the Suns ALWAYS have) you're right. If we foul like a team that actually... ah, forget it. We lost, Hill's obviously injured and Amare and DA are too damn stupid to lead us to a win over this team.

WHY DIDNT THEY FOUL GINOBILI with 19 sec left in 2nd ot. Even if he hits both, sun can still tie or win with a 2 or 3, plenty of time. DA was too confident in our defense?

Cotton's rolling over in his grave right now.

You foul. Foul. Foul. Foul. PHX played it perfect until the Nose got too low. Great pass, and Finley buries it.

I'm not going to bash Mike D too many times, but this is one of those times a coach has a DIRECT impact on the outcome. He gambled, and lost. Mike D takes the blame and we move on.

Great game. Bad for us, but it ain't over. The team played hard, stupid at times, and that's what kept PHX from winning.

I don't think Sa can play any better. I really don't. PHX can steal game 2, and come back to PHX with all the momentum. I will say that it will be a colossal beat down in PHX if we do win game 2.

I agree. If Manu is fouled instead of passing out to Duncan, then we'd be up 1-0. Period.

I think if you asked anyone....7th game of the finals... your up by 3 with seconds remaining.... you have duncan taking a 3 for the tie...

Anybody would take that.... Come on.

He made a clutch shot... you tip you hat and get him next time.

I agree we should've fouled, but Shaq had 5 fouls already so he didn't want to foul and Nash was too far behind the play to foul. I still think Duncan would miss that shot 97 out of 100 times.

Thre majority of coaches dont take that foul. I agree with you but history has shown that most coaches just dont foul there. Go figure. We should be making the big bucks darn it!

That's the problem. They should have fouled on the catch. Personally, I would have gone ahead and let Shaq foul and take our chances with a 1 point lead with only a couple seconds left and the ball in OT. I'd rather them foul Nash, he hits his free throws, then the Spurs have only a second to get a desperation 3 off to tie. If they would make that, then well, the basketball gods were never going to let us win in the first place.

Wrong. You foul and get the ball back with a few seconds left and force them to foul Nash. Then you are up by at least 3 again and then you foul them again, repeat, win.

Instead we blew the series making the same unbelievable gaffe not once but twice.

I agree, I thought foul immediately and turn it into a FT shooting contest, we will win that.

I'm going to :deadhorse2: and say that, if Grant Hill had been in the game guarding Michael Finley, instead of Leandro Barbosa as a 3rd Guard, Finley's declining game may have prevailed.

Finley's shot didn't happen to the Suns. Our tiny lineup allowed it to happen.
