Why didn't we sign JJ for what he wanted last yr again?

I was yelling last yr when I heard that we didn't sign him for a little more than what Q got... Some people said it was right decision because he was inconsistant and we needed to see what we had... We his stats looked quite a bit better than Q's the previous yr especially fg%, and isn't that the trademark of consistancy?!

I just look back at this draft and how Sarver is desperately looking to free up some cash and I'm thinking if he hadn't been such a cheap skate to start off with he wouldn't be in this position :(

I thought when the Suns let JJ become a RFA the Suns might be forced to do a sign and trade with him. He reportedly could have been extended for a reasonable amount.

Now it appears they will have to pay a huge sum to keep him and now I fear another player might even have to be moved in trade for the ever so thrifty (throw away draft picks) Suns. Does the Suns management remember this team won 62 games last year and perhaps, except for an injury to JJ, might have figured out a way to beat San Antonio.

I hate to say it, but I'm beginning to think money is becoming the primary mover of this franchise.

I hope somewhow the Suns management proves me wrong with some creative FA signings and only minor trades. By the way, has anyone figured out what the McCarty acquisition added to this team. He wasn't even a good bench warmer.

Damn, we must have ESPN! I wanted JJ signed last year, too! I thought it was a mistake then! Oh well, it only cost us about $20 million! :biglaugh:

It's funny. I didn't necessarily disagree with the Chicago trade in the draft last year. It was obvious that it was a mistake pretty quickly, but I understood the rationale. Before free agency I was probably the biggest voice on the messageboard against signing Q. However once most everyone else had signed elsewhere, the offer was already made to Q, and the suns had limited room remaining under the cap I've rationalized it. I figured Q would be okay as a best player available. It's pretty difficult to argue with the results.

1. Q was a big part of the success of the season. He was hot and cold all season, but during his hot streaks he shot the Suns to victory several times.

2. Jackson Vroman was part of the trade for Jimmy Jackson. We don't know if that trade could have been made without him.

If Kurt Thomas isn't a smashing success people are really going to second-guess every move last summer through this summer except signing Steve Nash.

1. In hindsight it looks like they blew it when they traded their pick in the 2004 draft. They could have taken Iguodala. They might not have had enough money to sign Q, but it would have had enough for it few remaining free agents.

2. It's clear now they should have re-signed JJ last year when they had the chance.

3. If Antonio McDyess continues to stay healthy they could have re-signed him with the money they used on Q minus Iguodala's salary.

4. Earlier I said that Jackson Vroman was part of the Jimmy Jackson trade, so we don't know if that could have been done without him. I bet they would have taken Jake Voskuhl or Cabarkapa in his place though.

These moves would have given us the following roster for the next four years at a reasonable price.

PG - Steve Nash, Barbosa
SG - JJ, Iguodala, Barbosa
SF - Shawn Marion, Iguodala
PF - Amare Stoudemire
C - Antonio McDyess, Hunter

Okay, consider these the ramblings of a madman who can't sleep at 4 in the morning. Even though that team is in better financial shape, and I like Iguodala a lot, I don't think that team goes anywhere as well last year, and I don't like it is well for next year either.

The bottom line is that the Phoenix Suns have obviously made some big blunders in the last year, but I really can't blame them because I agreed with most of them at the time. I suck. :)
