Why do Hollywood people need to tell the world how much they are giving to the relief

It is a very nice gesture to see Sandra Bullock saying she is donating one million dollars and Spielberg 1.5 million to the International Red Cross relief aid but why publicize it?

If you or I donate money to the cause I doubt we will be going to the media letting them know about it. I don't know if it's an ego thing or not for the Hollywood people but I wish they would keep it to themselves. It does not make them any better than the average American who is donating.

Wow Sandra Blaylock AND Sandra Bullock are giving money... must be a Sandra thing.

Just kidding with ya... Personalyl I think it's cool they are giving money... and I do believe giving it anonymously is the best route, but I'm not gonna knock them for doing a good deed and for being famous...

Actors are huge role models in our country. By showing people that they are giving a huge chunk of money to a charity, it should inspire others to give.

I love it when people correct others and then include a typo in their own post. :doi: :D

While that sounds great and all, I think it has more to do with Hollywood egos and actors/actresses/directors wanting the attention of the world to focus on them than it does "motivating others to give."

Big props for the donations, but they don't need to tell the world what dollar amount they're giving. That cheapens the act of giving. You're supposed to do a good deed because it's the right thing to do, not for the attention it could earn you if everyone knew about the deed...

I'd agree with bunny - puts pressure on other actors to do the same.

I mean really, are you going to go out and buy 'Speed 2' now because of this?

MISSPELLING

BTW - I only correct about 10 percent of typos/misspellings. If I corrected EVERY one of them, I'd have more posts than Ryan and Section combined. :D
