Why the heck did BoBo take Petit out last night?

Petit had settled in. He was only at 89 pitches. He was not up to bat in the 5th. Why pull him for an over-used and ineffective bullpen?

That move took the Dbacks from 3 runs up to 1 run down.

He's always been a guy who has struggled past 5 innings or so. Once he gets into the third time around the order the other guys seem to always just hit him hard.

if he is going to be effective, he needs to be able to work through that.

And with an overworked bullpen already, no excuse for it.

you pulled that out of your ass, or BoBo's mouth, right?

Petit has faced batters for the third time in a game only 9 times (9 plate appearances). His BAA is actually LOWER than first or second time through.

He does get hit harder second time through usually than first, but still a very small sample size.

So, in order to be effective, he needs to work through being ineffective? That makes as much sense as half of the lineups melvin has used this year.

Now it looks like you're the one pulling things out of your ass. In his career, opponents are hitting about 50 points higher the third time through the lineup as opposed to the first (.310 as opposed to .256). Opponents are also hitting him at a .290 clip the second time through the order. So the more times batters face him, the better they hit him.

Curious, are his stats when guys see him a 2nd and 3rd time much different from the average for a pitcher?

I couldn't find an official average, but I looked at 10 or so guys and they were all at around a .02 difference in average between the first and third plate appearance.
